I thought we were talking more about unelected PMs and putting your buddies in the Lords to get them in the (shadow) cabinet. There’s no coalition on the table currently.
The Conservatives are quite happy to go into coalition when it suits them, if they are the largest party then they are free to ask the others to help them out. They may receive a succinct two word response this time though. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Officially or otherwise I hope we see the opposition parties doing some joined up thinking when campaigning. I don’t particularly like it but the electoral system we have encourages it and again I didn’t hear the Tories complaining when Farage stood down his troops in their seats.
November 14, 2023 at 13:56 #1670436I think the system and the HOL stinks too Richard but it ain’t going to change any time soon Unfortunately. Much as I’m praying for a change, I think on the Tories part bringing Cameron into their fold will work out in their favour. It will be interesting to see if there are any swings in the poles. If I were a betting man, oh aye I am, I think the Tories will gain a few points from this. We’ll see.
November 14, 2023 at 15:47 #1670446I don’t think it will. Cameron comes with too much baggage. For one thing, people had forgotten about austerity because so much has happened since then, but it’s now being talked about again. The Greensill stuff hasn’t gone away. And Cameron’s dealings with other countries when PM was pretty dire. Look how weak he was with the EU which ultimately led to Brexit.I’d have to consult with my more knowledgeable political chums to point out the details but they’ve mentioned several times when his foreign policy was way off the mark. According to TRIP they think that Sunak wanted Hague to step forward but he declined. Rory is rueing his criticism of Sunak because he would have loved the job and would have been brilliant at it.Cameron has the sort of public school confidence that covers up his failings. Alastair thinks that Rwanda will go ahead which will cause no end of protests.I have a friend who works with local asylum seekers and the stories they tell are heartbreaking.
November 14, 2023 at 19:00 #1670458Braverman didn’t write a letter …. She threw a grenade , she really has lost touch with reality
November 14, 2023 at 19:07 #1670460Braverman saying she had a contract with Sunak.
Let’s see it, then.
November 14, 2023 at 22:15 #1670469I can’t disagree with any of your points on Cameron Moe, they just about cover all of the reasons I dislike Cameron. Having said that I’m not a Tory supporter and I think that regardless of his failings the Tory faithful will be pleased with his return. I’ll keep an eye on the markets to see what they think.
November 15, 2023 at 13:56 #1670510One of the key policies of ‘the party of law and order’ ruled unlawful (inside or outside the ECHR). £140m blown up the wall. The response from many of them? Let’s just ignore the law and do it anyway. Vile, despicable people.
November 15, 2023 at 17:42 #1670533Sunak’s speech was a pathetic attempt at appeasing the severe right of the party , surely this country is better than this , don’t get our way we’ll just change the law
November 15, 2023 at 17:49 #1670537It just occurred to me, when I was pondering on the possibility of Braverman being leader of the opposition next year, that we could have had Braverman as the unelected PM of this country now.
November 15, 2023 at 18:04 #1670539Braverman as LOTO is fine by me, they’ll remain in opposition forever with people like that in charge but yes it’s a frightening thought that she was anywhere near power.
Absolutely HDLG, I wonder if I’m allowed to choose which laws I obey based on whether I agree with them or not?
November 15, 2023 at 19:44 #1670543‘The prime minister said he “accepts it and respects” the supreme court decision but he did not agree with it and would find a way around it.’
So he accepts and respects it but also doesn’t accept or respect it. What a ridiculous statement.
November 15, 2023 at 20:09 #1670544Starmer’s ‘Sunak moment’ this eve
November 15, 2023 at 21:21 #1670553I would fear someone like Braveerman in power but a lot of what she says in her letter shows how weak Rishu is. He doesn’t have the presence of a PM and I don’t think he can possibly win an election. I think his days are numbered. As for who could take over from him I think leaders are as rare as hen’s teeth in the Tory party. In short, I think there time thankfully is up.
November 15, 2023 at 22:20 #1670557I don’t remember a government before that spent so much time trying to get round the law. Johnson appointed Braverman as Attorney General in a bid to ignore the law of the land. And now there’s talk of leaving the ECHR which actually protects us.
November 16, 2023 at 00:52 #1670566You’d wonder which genius came up the brainwave “Ruwanda!!!!!!”
November 16, 2023 at 03:36 #1670575You can bet that whoever it was, has vested interests there.

Let’s not forget their prorogation of Parliament in 2019, which the Supreme Court ruled “both justiciable and unlawful.”
As others have already said, this is supposed to be the party of law and order. Yeah, right.
