It wasn’t really up to anyone to have “a plan”. Because Brexit meant different things to different people and Boris was not PM at that stage anyway. But it was always going to go down to the final fence. It always does with the EU… And if Johnson hadn’t said we could walk away without a deal we’d have a much worse deal than we got.
The UK had never had a vote on being in the EU, Moe.
Even in the 70’s we voted for the “common market”.
That “common market” changed enormously over decades.
We should have had a referendum a lot sooner.
imo Referendums should be every 30 years.
I agree with Farage in that it was only right to have a vote.
Do you not think so?
Other countries had votes.
Ireland had two, when it didn’t come to the correct conclusion the first time around.
Had Labour supported Remain… Had the Remain campaign put up a better fight… Had the EU at that time not had prominent federalists… Had the EU given Cameron something tangible to offer the country… Had we had any of those, we’d have had a different result.
Value Is EverythingNovember 11, 2023 at 22:28 #1670191Johnson was a dreadful PM and Brexit is a disaster. He’s not ‘bashing’ them, he’s telling the truth. For every Helseltine there’s ten Tory bootlickers who’ll tell you how great Johnson was and how wonderfully Brexit is going despite masses of evidence to the contrary.
November 11, 2023 at 23:08 #1670195So a country makes a decision that affects everyone in the country that will affect everyone in it for generations to come but a plan wasn’t necessary? That doesn’t make sense to me. When you give people a vote surely they should know exactly what they’re voting for. Not just change for change sake.
November 11, 2023 at 23:19 #1670199“surely they should know exactly what they’re voting for”
They did. Or so they kept telling us.
November 12, 2023 at 16:27 #1670254Hundreds of thousands marching for Palestine, orders of magnitude fewer far right ‘counter-protestors’ present and which of these groups had more arrested? Remind me who the hate mob is again Suella?
November 12, 2023 at 16:54 #1670264Terrifying as it may sounds most of the Tory faithful would have Boris back tomorrow
November 12, 2023 at 17:11 #1670265I don’t doubt that for a second. It’s the same Tory faithful that inflicted Truss on us. Anyone would think they have no idea what they are talking about. Indeed it’s the same Tory faithful where you can vote if you’re 16 or from overseas and ineligible to vote in General Elections.
November 12, 2023 at 17:27 #1670269Does anyone think Sunak will sack Braverman
November 12, 2023 at 17:55 #1670276Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.
Looks weak if he doesn’t, stokes more Tory division if he does.
Although I’d argue he even looks weak to an extent if he does now, the time to do it was last week (well really he should never have reinstated her in the first place but we are where we are).
I’m inclined to think he’ll bottle it.
Patel might have a shot if he does, she actually looks compassionate and moderate compared to Braverman. I almost admire their ability to keep finding people even worse than their absolutely dreadful predecessors.
November 12, 2023 at 20:36 #1670303“Patel might have a shot if he does, she actually looks compassionate and moderate
compared to Braverman.”Genghis Khan looked more compassionate and moderate compared to Braverman Richard
November 12, 2023 at 21:28 #1670312In reality it seems like Braverman is/was not far off, in some of her assessments in the past week.
November 12, 2023 at 21:40 #1670315Well, I’ve had abuse hurled at me by ‘righties’ after a march in London so I guess it works both ways. I assume you approve if the behaviour of Tommy Robinson and his supporters then?

November 12, 2023 at 22:36 #1670323“Met Plod looking for a number of the Pro-Palestinian protestors from yesterday
(amazing how same Plod manage to arrest a number of the Anti- Palestinian Protest
mob straight away though,
).”That’s exactly what happens if you are doing your job properly Wilts, You get
your information, by various means, know where your threat is coming from and
stop it before it occurs. That’s good policing which obviously you are unaware
of.I’d be really interested if you could tell me where you saw these incidents, ie…
” Death to Jew ‘chants’ from a young woman
– Woman carrying a Naza swastika
– A number of people carrying immflamatory anti-semetic placards
– Vid footage of a number of pro-palestinian thugs surrounding a guy carrying a placard
comparing Hamas with ISIS ”Are you saying these are all on “X”
In particular I’d be very interested to see the footage of the Jewish worshipers being
hounded by Palestinian supporters throwing green dye over them.I’m neither a “leftie” nor a “righty” for that matter, but if these incidents did
happen they could definitely be followed up.“peaceful protesters, absolute low life” are you taking about the 100s of thousands
of people who protested against 11,000 people, yes some may have been Hamas, and over
4,000 children who are just innocent children blown to pieces. Are you seiously saying
that? Finally, no matter what your opinion is, calling Moehat pathetic is just rude.
November 12, 2023 at 22:56 #1670324You come up with a small number of isolated incidents and think that proves Braverman right? And you tell us to ‘wake up and smell the coffee’… She’s been proven spectacularly wrong by the 99.99% who turned up, protested peacefully and went home.
Police say it was 300k, the organisers say 800k (actual number therefore likely to be somewhere between the two). The number arrested or causing trouble is a fraction of a percentage point (note that two of your examples are ‘a woman’ singular). Unlike the far right mob, whipped up by Braverman and others who were vastly fewer in number yet made up the vast majority of arrests.
I hope that these small number of people displaying anti-Semitic messages are found if they haven’t been already just as I hope any of the far right thugs are also identified and prosecuted where they have committed crimes.
November 13, 2023 at 08:38 #1670332Suella sacked!
Just reported by Chris Mason on Radio 4.
Good riddance.
November 13, 2023 at 08:59 #1670334She’s managed to lose the same job twice in little over a year. That’s quite something.
Who on Earth has he got lined up now I wonder.
