There has been a thread on here I’m about this I’m sure but I couldn’t find it.
Anyway my son is a dab hand with the Sky remote control and records all the shows on Gold, Challenge etc.
Last night before his bedtime we were watching an episode of Pointless in which among the questions and answer was who trained Frankel and Midday? They had asked 100 people and only 1 person out of the hundred knew the answer

Even my 7 year old looked up and said Henry Satchel and he hardly watches the stuff.
To be fair only 41 people knew that Ferguson had taken over Man Utd in 1986 so perhaps the people asked were not of the Sporting nature or is it a reflection that yes our sport is the 2nd most viewed but nobody gives a poo bar if their horse has won or lost?

If I recall the same show had a question to name Grand National winning jockeys or trainers and Martin Pipe was a pointless answer.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the quiz show contestant. I remember years ago on 15 to 1 where the question was:-
"In which
Scottish
city is The Daily Record newspaper published?"
Contestant:-
"Err….
Manchester!
"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 7, 2014 at 20:10 #481585Just watched an episode of sporting (football) celebs.
One question was who was the winning jockey when Dick Francis famously lost the Grand National. You were given the initials DD.
I was shouting Dave Dick but nobody guessed it and it was a pointless answer!!

Apparently one of the million quid questions on ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ was
Which of these races is not part of the Triple Crown?
Kentucky Derby
Preakness Stakes
Belmont Stakes
Washington InternationalEasy-peasy shout we racing buffs, how on earth can that be a million quid question?
But for every one racing buff there’s a thousand talent show buffs; and I would be asking the audience/phoning a friend/removing two if asked the acutely difficult ten quid question
Which of these hasn’t won Britain’s Got Talent?
a
b
c
dIf you know an answer the question’s easy, if you don’t it’s difficult
What is worthwhile knowledge and what isn’t?
What is good taste and what is bad taste?
Who looks down on whom?Around 1980 a mildly amusing book called ‘How To Be A Wally’ flew off the shelves. One of the definitions of a ‘Wally’ was someone who could name every Derby winner since 1900…easy-peasy
June 8, 2014 at 10:25 #481640I remember a competition on Radio 1 once, where they asked the kid on the phone a hard question, and if she got that right, they asked the family an easy one, so the kid got to go to some gig or something. All the family had to do was name a top 10 tennis player, male or female, and they didn’t know a single one. Not even Andy Murray! Even if you don’t follow something, you pick bits up. I know a couple of cricket players……
June 8, 2014 at 10:41 #481643I’ve no time for them sort of programmes, think the missus watches it sometimes and when she’s mentioned one or two the questions I’ve never understood what you’re meant to do and I don’t want to.
Did the person answering the Cecil question get it right and win?
I also wonder about the honesty of programmes like that.
Give me Criss Cross Quiz anyday.
June 8, 2014 at 12:39 #481657There were three different pairs of contestants and they had the option to selection from about 8 questions, none decided to guess the racing question but it was given out as 1 point after the round.
