Mr. Caine methinks you may have an axe to grind here.
You’re not involved with bookmaking, or even ATR itself, are you?
Racing UK a joke!!!???
Surely a channel that gives employment to Chapman, Thompson, Harvey and Bird are the ones who should be described thus?
ATR, the channel who go to such lengths to keep their advertisers happy, that we are treated to being whisked away from the racing for an ad break 4 minutes, less at times, before a race and return as the horses are entering the stalls, if we are lucky, they have been known to miss the start of races.
ATR seem prepared to go to any lengths to prevent the punter/viewer getting a view of the horses. They would rather insert an interview with just about any ****** than give us an opportunity to see if the favourite is behaving itself.
I have complained to RUK and ATR about the lack of pre-race views of the animals we are ‘investing’ on.
ATR’s response through the medium of Matt Chaparse, was that they just haven’t got the time, whereas I had a lengthy and detailed email from Jim Ramsey at Racing UK, explaining that they were aware of the importance of showing the shots that I was asking for but on occasions they weren’t in a position to deliver and that they were often in debt to Racecourse Technical Services for some of their paddock shots and they didn’t have the financial clout to have their own camera positions.
You may think that that isn’t good enough, as I do, but at least Mr. Ramsey took the time to give a truthful explanation.
I think you should come clean and own up to the hidden agenda that you appear to have.

February 20, 2008 at 17:49 #145097RacingUK is fine but I do agree with more features rather than 4 day old replays.
The through the night replays of the days events are great for me though, that has to stay.
Please don’t mention Matt Chapman there aren’t many more hateful creatures around than that complete and utter tw&t.

February 20, 2008 at 19:23 #145121Just to restore the balance slightly.
Race 3 at Kempton was the 7:20. RUK have only got one meeting to cover. The first they mention of the race is at 7:19 and 15 seconds
No shots of any of the horses in the paddock, one shot of one horse going to post, and they hardly discussed the race whatsoever – very poor in my opinion.
I think ATR do ok. They get some fantastic trainer and jockey interviews on the Get On show. I don’t have a problem with RUK either (other than when they do what they just have).
Both channels give me everything I want to be honest.

February 20, 2008 at 19:55 #145129i want ruk to show replays of yesterdays racing, looped, as i dont know when i will get in and as i pay for it, i want to see the races – not some shoite replay of an old race
February 21, 2008 at 05:57 #145214For people like me who work full time and only get to watch racing when the rest of the family are otherwise engaged, evening/morning/weekend replays are a godsend.
Also as a racing lover in general, I don’t care if it’s the Cheltenham Gold Cup or a low grade evening meeting from Wolves, I want to watch it.
February 21, 2008 at 08:32 #145231flash,
IMO, that hateful tw#t of a creature matt chapman is the best presenter of horseracing on ANY channel, opinions are great.
February 21, 2008 at 10:00 #145253RUK, as I recall, were not meant to have adverts when they started whcih justified charging us a subscription. They now have adverts

RUK is excellent. Presentation is as professional as you could hope for and the replays are essential for those of us with normal lives
If i was to make one tiny comment, I wish that during the coverage and replays they would make clear which horse is trained by whom. After a day at work i get a bit too lazy to continually refer to the paper…especially if its a meeting i am just half watching
And a few more of their excellent preview programmes would be welcome too
ATR is no more than OK IMO.

You’re having a laugh surely barry? Just be grateful you don’t have to watch him much unlike the rest of us with your business interests.
Mikky Mo makes a good point, the truth is racing fans are badly served in this country despite the quantity of racing covered.
For instance I would like to know for who’s benefit sound effects on horse racing are for? RUK had a horrible din everytime they showed a replay from Kempton last night and why do they start playing music before the race has finished on Replay?
Do viewers prefer to see pictures from the inside of the track from a camera on a car following the runners or would they prefer to see the conventional view provided by Racetech?February 21, 2008 at 18:22 #145343I myself like hearing the sound of the turf or sand aswell as the noise of the horses jumping over the hurdles and fences as it adds that little bit more to the coverage.
February 21, 2008 at 19:20 #6798It was indeed Lorna Bradburne. She has done the odd gig on RUK before. Not sure what she’s up to nowadays as she left ATR/SIS to work for Turftrax but got made redundant from there.
February 21, 2008 at 19:37 #145351It would sound very odd without the sound effects.
February 21, 2008 at 20:45 #145357I read this thread as I was intrigued by the idea that RUK had trained a chicken or perhaps a small parakeet to present the day’s twig-hopping or sand-shuffling. Imagine my disappointment.
Clearer thread titles please.
February 21, 2008 at 21:50 #145366She’s master of ceremonies at Newmarket as well isn’t she?

I always hope the camera car is going to get a puncture. I want shots that will show as much of the field as practicable.
The only "fancy" camera shot I really like is the overhead from the blimp – not everyones cup of tea I know, but I find it very good – although preferably as a post race tool as a replay.
What I really dislike is when the director tries to be really clever and keeps changing shots and you then have to re-identify the runners.
February 21, 2008 at 22:08 #145371"Colin, what is the problem with the red button. ………."
Nothing wrong with the idea, but it is very ‘clunky’ and the picture quality is terrible…………….a bit like a video-phone!!!

Would it? You mean you’ve never heard racing without sound effects or you have and it sounded very odd?
