They will charge eventually, which is fine if you don’t buy the RP every day.
If you do buy the RP every day, they should have some way of giving you a heavily discounted internet service. I’m not sure how you could do this without creating administration expenses.
I now pay £10 a week for the paper, which is good value in my opinion(although many might disagree).
November 3, 2006 at 19:25 #29963I’ll kick myself, I know, but I can’t for the life of me think what the "RTF%" after each horse’s name in the racecards means. Anyone able to put me out of my misery, please?
Cheers,

November 3, 2006 at 22:18 #29965Yes Grey Desire is right. Isn’t it to within 10% of the best form or 6lbs?
March 9, 2007 at 10:07 #981If you haven’t seen the changes to the Racing post you might want to have a look. Interestingly there is scheduled maintence tomorrow morning. I wonder if that is when they plan to charge us for the facilities they brought in at the start of this year? They basically have changed it so that you get new windows for spotlight, selections form etc, but those that are shortsighted probably won’t appreciate the changes!
March 9, 2007 at 10:45 #42834Looks good…. Whatever they charge it will be marvellous value, I am sure we would all agree.
March 9, 2007 at 11:56 #42835……….not as good value as it being free though!!;)

March 9, 2007 at 12:41 #42836Anyone who markets .pdf files and expects folk to buy them just needs the sack, I would imagine they are still employing the same boffin.
Does anyone know how to change pdf to excel ?
March 9, 2007 at 12:56 #42837I’ll stop using the Racing Post if they start charging a fee, there are too many gullible people around and I also agree with dave about the pdf stuff
Dave search google for "pdf to excel" there are a few programs available but most are trials, it seems everyone wants money for anything or nothing these days… :)
March 9, 2007 at 13:45 #42838Surely the chance to buy Tommo’s tips for £3 is the most worthy addition?

Surely it is commercial sense to charge for something as useful as the RP website? Good luck with your switch to the Sporting Life site.
March 9, 2007 at 18:34 #42840I don’t like the changes. I like reading the spotlight verdicts, which used to be below every race, but now you have to open up something else to get them, and as you all say we will probably have to pay for them soon, which i think is a joke.
No wonder Horse Racing is struggling to get fans in this country ahead of other sports. Everything is money these days.
March 9, 2007 at 18:38 #42841Some of the views expressed here are ludicrous. Why should you get the Racing Post data for free? The amount of information available on there would make it good value even if they charged something like £15 a month.
March 9, 2007 at 18:44 #42842Jim, I don’t use the RP website much but I would if it was more user friendly and I wouldn’t mind paying for .xls files, so long as they weren’t too expensive. The DRF sheets in the States are very good, something similar would be great.
What they don’t seem to understand is that racing is a hobby for most folk and there comes a point when the pleasure is outweighed by the expense of it. People are only prepared to pay so much and then then will simply lose interest.
If you subcribed to RUK, bought the .pdf files from the RP and watched a few of their re-runs you would be looking at spending a couple of hundred a month .. thats more than 75% of punters spend on racing in six months.
March 9, 2007 at 18:44 #42843Its free now so why should they start to charge and alienate a lot of their users. You can see both sides to the argument but they are obviously able to run without charging people so a decision to do so is a decision to exploit surely?
March 9, 2007 at 19:21 #42844Dave Jay, you may find the following site useful:
I haven’t used the software myself, but it looks as though it will do the job.
March 9, 2007 at 20:09 #42845Some very good points from Flash and Stormont.
It’s always been free from day one so why the change now?
Money for nothing and the chicks for free
ps. Smithy, I use the sporting life site more than I do the RP so no "switching" for me. There’s also GG.com, so the RP isn’t the be all and end all.
