well i’d much rather have trading leather at a similar price, than the obrien horse. at least that’s actually got the form in the book.
October 26, 2012 at 09:27 #418341actually i think just a place lay of kingsbarns and the hannon horse is the way forward in this race
October 26, 2012 at 13:39 #418362ANyone know where I can view a free replay of Kingsbarns maiden?

It is available on Attheraces. You need to register but it’s free to view. I use an old email address for this purpose.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 26, 2012 at 15:42 #418375We will learn a lot about Josephs strategy in tomorrow’s race. If he thinks he is good enough to win he will pull the other horses out and just ride the stable choice. When he is not sure he allows the other jockeys to ride with him and take their chances.
October 26, 2012 at 17:43 #418385In the absence of Havana Gold I’ll take First Conerstone to relish the step up in trip and Van Der Neer to chase him home.

Must have though Camelot was going to lose in the Guineas and the Derby then

I’d expect Sir Patrick Moore to make the running and Trading Leather to be up there as he doesn’t do anything quickly.
I’d expect Joesph to sit off the pace and try and take it up about 1/12 furlongs out and win by 3 lengths at 15/8 in a time of 1m 39.64 secs
October 27, 2012 at 09:52 #418463Judging by past victories, Aiden O’Brien would seem to know the type of horse it takes to win this race.
I preferred the race when it was run on the round course.
I can still see Michael Jarvis’s Beldale Flutter, ridden by Pat Eddery, who went onto win the Benson & Hedges ( Juddmonte International ) the following season, getting the better of Shergar, with Lester aboard, in 1980.

October 27, 2012 at 13:45 #418480hurdygurdyman.You may have misunderstood me.When Joseph is riding what he thinks a good thing the stable has since last year cleared out the rest of their runners from the race. This leaves no chance for an outsider from the yard to upset the applecart.Note the Derby, the St.Leger and last years Doncaster race. When they don’t think they have a good thing for Joseph they run a stack of horses and anything can happen, like the One Thousand Guineas and the Oaks this year.
October 27, 2012 at 14:10 #418482oh dear, terrible call by me there
I hold my hands up. thats why I don’t play betfair anymore

however 4-1 kingsbarns for the derby? you must be kidding. I think that was a pretty poor group one.
October 27, 2012 at 14:22 #418484Best price 8/1 EGS

Was it any worse than the one Camelot won? I think given his inexperience and ground that probably wasn’t ideal he did as much as you could expect. Looking ahead I actually prefer to see a horse finding something off the bridle.
October 27, 2012 at 15:27 #418492Didn’t think it was a bad G1 at all. Plenty of group winners and Steeler set a decent benchmark as a Royal Lodge winner. Impressed with the winner but would rather back him for the Guineas than the Derby. AOB hinting he had plenty of speed. Mind you he always says that!
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Looked a much better race than both of Dawn Approach’s Group 1 wins where he never really had any opposition, or even the Middle Park and Vincent O’Brien stakes. Steeler was a convincing Royal Lodge winner, and Trading Leather also won what everybody thought was a strong renewal of the Autumn stakes. I wouldn’t back him at that price either, but there was nothing wrong with that race and performance. In fact, I thought it was pretty impressive.
October 27, 2012 at 16:43 #418494A very good performance against a pretty decent field but I don’t think it would be wise to discount the part conditions played. The ground looked pretty soft I thought and did I hear he timed 3 seconds below standard? That would point again to pretty slow conditions. His action seemed to suggest that he might be particularly suited to ground with plenty of give.
Definitely one to look out for but I wouldn’t discount the possibility of a Home Coming Queen sort of result. I doubt he’ll get ground like that in either of the Spring classic races.
…Jury’s out for me until we’ve seen him contest a race on proper racing ground.
October 27, 2012 at 22:27 #418517Think you’ve got it right Hammy. I believe the race itself had a better over all field than last year, but the ground puts a question mark over whether the form will work out on a sound surface. Ladbrokes were shortest price for Kingsbarns today. They are now standout best prices for both Guineas and Derby. With Mike Dillon very close to Coolmore, suspect he’s been tipped off by AOB & Co they believe the round actioned Kingsbarns needs a soft surface to show his best.
Value Is EverythingOctober 28, 2012 at 11:39 #418542I thought it was a very good performance for a horse that had only run once before though I don’t think the others are really any better than G2 horses. On pedigree he looks more a Derby type than a Guineas horse as he has stamina on both sides but then again this season’s 2yos don’t look outstanding, it is rare to see Belmez as a grandsire these days. Connections didn’t seem bothered yesterday about his action or firmer ground for the Derby and if you like him then 8-1 isn’t at all bad.
