A 2yo never won the Guineas lads. Forget what you see here and think about what you might see in 7 months time.
I agree that a jockey is an awful judge sometimes but Fallon knows his stuff and he would have a certain amount of obligation to take riedes from the trainers who have supported him since his comeback. Meehan is one of them.

Do you ever read his weekender column? Fallon is completely clueless when it comes assessing a horse. He’s far better at riding them.
Cassamento is off to Godolphin, forget about him for next years classics.
The horse from the race that interests me is Native Khan. This horse is stamina laden by pedigree and we won’t see the best of him till he tackles a mile and a half. Can’t believe he keeps being held up at this sort of trip especially in moderately run races. Not saying he will be Derby class but he’s got a fair bit of improvment in him when stepped up in trip.

To be fair to Keiren Fallon he had to make his decison early as Ed Dunlop wouldn’t be a man for messing about.
Weather considered and the possibilty Native Khan might not run he chose wisely despite where the horses finished.
I have to agree with you on Native Khan Ian, haven’t really changed my mind since the first time I saw the race but have now veiwed the race several times.
He stands out like a sore thumb as the best horse in the race for me.
Travelled well and got into a good position as they quickened but you can clearly see he just couldn’t go on that ground. You could also see the engine is there and I’ll put my neck on the line here and say where Casamento finises the next time they meet native Khan will finish in front of him.
Whether either is good enough to win the Derby or not who knows but I’d rather nack Native Khan than Casamaneto at this stage.
Only thing that puts me off backing him is Eddie Ahern’s comment saying he woudn’t get within 100 yds of Frankel. Maybe none of those who ran today are up to classic standard and the Irish horses simply aren’t that good although Pathfork could develop into anything.
Still can’t see past Frankel Wootton Bassett and Saamidd who I personally consider to be the best prospects for next years classics.
October 24, 2010 at 10:40 #324227RH, I agree with Ian here. I think you’re underestimating one horse at least, possibly one or two more.
Native Khan
hated the ground, had trouble in running and possibly challenged on a softer part of the track over a distant too short. The stable regard him extremely highly. Given a dry spring and early summer, that one has races like the Dante/Derby/Irish Derby/King George written all over him.
October 26, 2010 at 12:28 #324637The questions you must answer about Native Khan is (a)was he passing tired horses and if not (b)was he better than the horses who beat him to the winning post? I believe (a) is the correct answer.
