Tipped up Casamento without seeing the prices, because he’s my horse to follow next year.
Why is Native Khan so big? 8/1 is a cracking each way bet.

Ed Dunlop’s been saying all season he wants fast ground to be seen at his best.
I for one will be sick if he wins having tipped him up as my horse to follow and backing him accordinly at Sandown.
Some race this, can’t really get my head round it..real toughie.
October 22, 2010 at 20:30 #323931Master of the Hounds 12/1 ew
You going off The Master Sir?
October 23, 2010 at 08:44 #323983Casamento is a good bet at 3/1 to win this. The two others with the best potential ability to win this are Dunboyne Express and Zaidan, but both have been injured and have not run for a couple of months or more. Zaidan’s Chesham Stakes contained four horses that have gone on to perform well at Listed/Group level and he beat them very easily. That was over 7f in June. If he is over his August injury he may well have improved enough to do very well here.
October 23, 2010 at 09:30 #323994Zaidan is my each-way bet in the race. Ran too bad to be true last time and I feel he’ll make his presence felt a bit more this time.
Possibly Casamento for the win but Native Khan will be a live threat should the rain stay away.

Dubawi Gold (i’ve put him each-way as the price allows it but I’m confident he’ll win).
Well he’s been backed in from the 25’s available midweek which doesn’t surprise me. I picked out Casamento as one to follow earlier in the season but won’t be backing him or any of the other horses today.
October 23, 2010 at 12:51 #324050I’ve had an ew on him as well with the ground being
a bit on the soft side. Also the complete outsider whose name I can’t spell!

And Casamento joins Godolphin; wave goodbye to his three-year-old season now.
October 23, 2010 at 14:31 #324071Well done Mick Halford. His best horse since the great Golden Cross who was robbed of Cheltenham glory!
I hope he keeps Casamento for his 3yo career now.
October 23, 2010 at 16:22 #324092Sending Casamento over to Godolphin and to Dubai is a disastrous move. Horses that winter over there have difficulty adapting to the spring climate when they return here. Its the 2nd half of the year when they show their true form. Godolphin always tend to finish the year strongly with lots of winners from July onwards but for Casamento, his big dates are early May and early June next year. If he goes to Dubai i cannot have him on my list for the Guineas or Derby. Personally i would leave him with Halford as he has proven he can campaign him effectively but if they were adamant on sending him to Godolphin, why not at least consider sending him to Andre Fabre, which they have started doing with some of their horses. Somehow i cannot see it happening which is a massive shame as this horse is still quite weak and hasnt fulfilled his potential by a long way. He Could have a massive 3year old career ahead of him, just hope it isnt ruined before its begun

Not so sure he’s a Derby horse.
Put it this way. I’ve heard Frankie a lot more enthusiastic than he was today, after riding a Group 1 winner.
At the start of this thread I said what he lacks in class he makes up for in determination and that’s how I still see him.
He’s beat 2 AOB horses we know very little about Native Khan who hated the ground and Drumboyne Express who who pulled too hard and may not have stayed.
I’d reckon Frankie is still thinking Saamidd will be his Derby horse despite his flop in the Dewhurst. He was bubbling when asked about him this was more matter of fact.
8/1 for the Guineas a race Godolphin don’t seem to care about? He’d find Wootton Bassett a much tougher nut to crack than anything in that race today. I wouldn’t even be sure he’d beat Native Khan on fast ground if he turns up. Pathfork is still more of a worry to Frankel IMO
10/1 for the Derby looks Ok but that’s about it and I wouldn’t take it.
Taking everything into consideration I have to ask myself was this race as good as the National Stakes?
Certainly didn’t look a huge step up in class. So he’s run a similar race which told us nothing we didn’t know before.
For me he lacks the toe associated with most Derby winners and there’s bound to be a few out there who are better equipt for the race.
I do like the horse but just can’t help but think Pathfork will always be that little bit better.
October 23, 2010 at 18:35 #324117Fist, come on now. A couple of weeks ago, you scoffed at me saying CASSAMENTO was a better value bet for the guineas at 16/1 rather than Frankel at 5/4. Can you honestly say you would have that ticket instead of mine?

Rather have mines on Wootten Bassett than yours.
I need more time to study the race to be honest but at first viewing I wasn’t impressed…….too many too close for my liking.

Without trying to upset anyone, wouldn’t you think it more likely Casamento goes to the French Guineas then the French Derby (the same route as his sire) knowing he isn’t likely to get the 1m4f in the English Derby which was always the suspicion with Shamardal. He may get campaigned in France early doors then go for a couple of 1m-1m2f races elsewhere in the year.
October 23, 2010 at 19:21 #324130I have been in racing for over fifty years and the worst judges to compare horses are the jockeys(with the exception of Lester). So I would not mind Frankie’s recent enthusiasm,or Buick’s either. Why just in today’s race Fallon got off Dunlop’s and finished next to last on Meehan’s horse.

Well done to Casamento backers, though I’d stand by my original assertion, that it’s probably a poor renewal.
Wouldn’t have the winner on my mind for any of the Guineas – he’s hardly had a specialist miler’s preparation, and didn’t beat much, or convincingly enough, to pose any kind of threat to the likes of Frankel. Though the time was a juvenile course record, there can’t have been more than a handful of such races run over the new layout, and few of those on such kindly ground.
I’d still maintain that Zoffany didn’t run his race in the National Stakes, and I’d be surprised if this winner proved any great shakes in the future, (even if he wasn’t going to Godolphin, which has probably sealed his fate anyway).October 24, 2010 at 02:05 #324190After all ReetHard what did he beat? The same old crowd he meets every weekend at the Curragh. No big deal.2nd and 3rd last week and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd today from the overseas challenge.4 out of the 5 from Ballydoyle. As our friend,Graeme Rodway in the Racing Post said Casamento looks slow.
