Apparently, they have spent the best part of 10 million quid on this shambles of a new website…

December 3, 2008 at 13:26 #194002This morning it won’t let me log-in, despite the fact that I am using the correct username and password.
December 3, 2008 at 14:12 #194007I’ve just carried out three searches without loggin in and it is fine. Took a few seconds to pick up one horse’s form but otherwise was okay.
Not particularly impressed with the look/layout of it though.December 3, 2008 at 14:45 #194018It’s currently down for maintenance
December 3, 2008 at 14:46 #194019As regards the Sporting Life website, I had a quick look at the Fairyhouse National Hunt card today and the first thing that hit me was that the top of the page tells us that a high draw is best in races of up to 1m.
December 3, 2008 at 14:53 #194022It’s not just down for maintenance but
‘SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE’
so they planned to do it at this time of the day to annoy us even further.
You would think scheduled maintenance would take place at night not a few hours before the first race.
Of course if we are really lucky they could be putting the old site back up.
December 3, 2008 at 15:37 #194034Can’t even login this morning as it says my details are incorrect which they aren’t as saved in password manager and logged in with them yesterday.
The site then locked my account and wouldn’t take the whole of my email address to send me the password so emailed them separately.
So far my experience is they have really cocked up and if I don’t get a satisfactory response I will stop using it henceforth.
Also the cards only appear to be available for today’s meetings not future.

Watchdog anyone?
December 3, 2008 at 15:46 #194041It’s also ****** me up and logged me out and won’t let me send an email to get back in. Thank goodness I don’t rely on them for my data.
December 3, 2008 at 16:15 #194046It locked me out after three tries with the correct username and password.
Ii accepted my email and I immediately recieved a new password. I then went to my profile and changed it back to my original password.
Chances are until the log in is repaired I will have to through this performance when I log in next.
TO GET FUTURE RACECARDS
When on the racecard page go to the top of the page. Click the red triangle next to the date then change the date to the day you want.
Incidently while on a racecard page clicking the print out tag at the top allows you to get two other style of racecards in PDF format. One is in Raceform all in a line style. The other a colour card as in the printed version of the RP. At the moment FREE to view or download
December 3, 2008 at 17:02 #194064Yes, it is ****

Down for maintenance, slow to load pages, tells me my login details are incorrect, tells me to register, won’t let me register as someone else has my username and other variations i try, eventually i reg new details and it’s still slow as crap. Don’t like the layout either. Still slow.
December 3, 2008 at 17:17 #194065I was giving them the benefit of the doubt yesterday…
…but it really does seem like the biggest website cock-up I’ve ever seen.
How can they get it this wrong? I’m an internet programmer and I warrant that I, alone, for about 5000 quid, would have been able to program it to work without much fuss.
If the site cost any major part of the GBP10m supposedly allotted for "online expansion", someone’s head should roll….
December 3, 2008 at 17:22 #194066Pretty desperate, isn’t it?
I’d guess that they’ve used the old "V-model", or "waterfall", development methodology which can sometimes lead to unpleasant surprises at the last moment – like not having enough, or powerful enough, servers and similar "environmental" oversights.
I dunno….seems to me like they have used that new fangled development method Fragile, sorry I mean Agile. Start off with a basic idea, then repeat development & test ad infinitum. "What’s that? You want to implement? ‘Course you can – here’s what we’ve got. We’ll keep on going, but you can give your customers this for now"
Big mistake when the new is nowhere as accessible, reliable and, er well, good as the old.
Yeah, and I cant get passed the log in either!!
December 3, 2008 at 17:30 #194068Sent two seperate emails to feedback@racingpost.com on different issues.
Received two replies this morning, both identical!Thank you for giving us your feedback.
Unfortunately we are experiencing technical difficulties with our new site, which our IT technicians are working to rectify as quickly as possible.December 3, 2008 at 18:01 #194083Kevin
Surprise, surprise, I had one of those as well!
