I see from FT.com that the Racing Post has formally been sold for £190m to FL partners.
The most interesting line from the FT article was that the new owners have made charging subscriptions for the Racing Post website a key part of their future strategy.
Makes business sense, will annoy a lot of people though.August 2, 2007 at 22:35 #110253Charge for access to the site .. another well thought out plan then, is this the same folk that was running the tube ..
August 3, 2007 at 09:55 #110301doubt it will bother the sporting life guys
August 3, 2007 at 10:25 #110303The Sporting Life doesn’t have form does it, Small Bear?
August 3, 2007 at 10:28 #110305Yes it does, Zorro, full career form of each runner.
August 3, 2007 at 10:42 #110307It would just be a matter of getting used to the format.
August 3, 2007 at 10:44 #110311Its not a patch on the post. They don;t have half the french form, no race analysis, no independent rating… I can;t get on the post from work so have to use it but would much prefer to use the RP.
August 3, 2007 at 10:59 #110314…………….but they do include the Irish racing in their quick results service.

August 3, 2007 at 11:22 #110317I think it will depend on how much they want to charge for access .. if the way they have priced up the useless .pdf files are anything to go by, it will be out of reach for most recreational punters.
These ventures never make as much money as the accountants spreadsheets say they will.
August 3, 2007 at 11:40 #110320As indispensible as Raceform Interactive is to me at 50 quid a month, I still find it easier and quicker to go through cards for selection criteria on the RP site and its free! I wouldnt mind paying say 15 quid a month for it if it does become a pay site.
August 3, 2007 at 12:22 #110324The lifetime form of a horse on the Sporting Life website doesn’t even state if the race was a hurdle or a chase. You have to highlight the race date to find that info. As Cavelino Rampante states, I would no problem with something along the lines of £10-£15 per month.
August 3, 2007 at 19:28 #110377The RP website is excellent: If I couldn’t access it, I would have to purchase the RP paper version again. I’m surprised that it has been available free for so long. Its probably worth about a tenner a month, but if they charged on the basis of £0.20 per download or race, as they do now, it would probably cost me too much.
Surely they must be able to put together some sort of package that enabled users to download their favourite parts of the entire RP stable.
August 3, 2007 at 22:29 #110396Does anyone else use any other free sites to asses their form/selections? i prefer RP but I only use it 2-3 times a week so a monthly subsciption might not be my thing.
Can you get good prize money stats from any other sites?
August 3, 2007 at 22:50 #110399Hi everybody!
I play races in different countries and so far I got most of the forms for free (Europe, South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong). The only country where I have to pay for forms is America (well, we know it’s capitalistic
). Would be sad if the Racing Post charged them. Then I would put my information together from Sporting Life and At The Races (the forms they have are not so bad and you can register for free).August 3, 2007 at 23:14 #110402Welcome to The Racing Forum, nitro.

August 3, 2007 at 23:20 #110403Thank you Seabird
August 4, 2007 at 00:49 #110408The Sporting Life, Attheraces and a daily newspaper will have to do for me if they start to charge. I wonder if the Life will still publish the NAPS table though?
