In the 4.15 Punchestown Il Courra is down to carry 10.3. I always assumed that his actual weight would be 10.3 minus the 7 lb claim but reading the race description I’m not so sure now. Can anyone tell me what weight he will actually carry (thanks in advance).
April 29, 2022 at 17:25 #1596135I think on the racecard the weight is shown unaltered (in case of a jockey change I assume) but on the results page the actual weight carried is shown, so now it’s showing that he carried 9st 10lb.
I had thought sportinglife did the same but actually their results page is showing the pre claim weight of 10st 3lb.
April 29, 2022 at 19:40 #1596160Thanks. It also said he was running from out of the handicap but I don’t see how that could be if he was carrying 10.3. If he was running from out of the handicap his weight would have been under 10 stone. It threw me because I always look at the difference between OR and RPR and then add on any allowance.

The minimum weght for that race was 10-3 – i.e no horse could be allocated less than 10-3 regardless of its handicap rating. It’s what we know over here as a Limited Handicap, with a smaller range between top weight and bottom weight than in the majority of handicaps.
He was actually 4lbs out of the handicap, as his current rating is 125, but he was running here off 129 – i.e 129 = 10-3.
Then you take off the 7lbs for the conditional jockey to put him on 9-10.
April 29, 2022 at 22:43 #1596191Thanks. I just assumed minimum weight was 10st. I’ll avoid limited handicaps in future, my maths being pretty bad at the best of times!
May 2, 2022 at 16:51 #1596709Apologies if it is a daft question , but why dont the racecards report the weights that they will actually carry , including back protector and sauna allowance (or whatever he extra 3lbs is) . It is the true figure after all.
