Alex Quin . Celebrity Q and A. Anyone get that on? But seriously, there are a few good tv people. Some brilliant and not nearly as glam which makes the variety just great. Big mac can for eg irritate the ….. off me but there’s something I like. It’s finding the right comb ination that is the trick. So a good poll with a few missing………Keep em coming.
September 3, 2007 at 23:00 #113476Hold your horses Jeremy, I reckon I feel the same way about Alex as you do your missus.

Sorry, nobody else on Earth can match it. Fact.

September 4, 2007 at 06:44 #113501Willhoughby and McNae for humour, Francome and McGrath for Information and Luke Harvey and Emily Jones for facts and interviews(before you all say it I know I’ve critised Mr Harvey on other thread but he gets to talk to all the top jockeys and trainers and Emily is extremely knowledgable)
September 4, 2007 at 08:37 #113511Anyone with the lovely Alex Quin. McCrirrick drools all over her when together but that’s to be expected I suppose.
Teamed up with the unfortunate Alex, the dribbling, pawing, Neanderthal McCririck makes Ron Burgundy look like 90s New Man.

September 4, 2007 at 09:01 #113518It’s Lydia Hislop and Jonathan Neesom for me by a street. Pleasing timbres and always informative (and impeccably informed), yet neither are so in thrall to the owners / trainers / riders / officials of the sport that they won’t criticize them as and where they see fit. Jonathan’s acid wit finds particular favour.
Few things beat the two of them in full flow at somewhere like Market Rasen on a Sunday afternoon, I reckon. If I live to be only a quarter as good as them at this racing media lark then I’ll be a happy boy. As well as still four times crapper, obviously.

(graysonscolumn)Could this be one for Private Eye’s OBN column
September 4, 2007 at 10:12 #113530Cheeky sod – that was credit where it’s due, rather than shameless hagiography. I didn’t use the phrase "not worthy to lick their boots" even once, for heaven’s sake!

September 4, 2007 at 10:14 #113532Did anyone hear the Willoughby / Bartlett combo at the weekend?
It was a mis-match – clearly Barty, not known for his sense of humour, was wondering how he managed to get stuck with this clown.
[/quoteI must admit I felt sorry for Willo, he struggled to get Barty off the bridle, it was a bit like pulling teeth. Although I’m glad Barty’s blanked the childish idiot Chapman recently he’s not really suited to presenting as he doesn’t want to give anything although he does make more effort for the Beeb.
I did have a chuckle at Willo after Donohoe or Donohue rode a winner but it was lost on Barty
September 4, 2007 at 10:44 #113534Mellish and Hislop most definately
September 4, 2007 at 12:01 #113547Absolutely appalling that Scu and Pitman aren’t in the list.
In which case I have to go for Clare and Willie, because even my non-racing friends like to chuckle at them, and I always go for the humorous option.

What is the deal between Bartlett and Chapman is it personal or just a joke. to be far to Chapman he always winds up the Racing Uk presenters who do commentary.
September 4, 2007 at 13:11 #113560I went for Francome and McGrath. A stack of knowledge between the two of them. On occasions their programme may get a little too frivilous for some of us, but there’s plenty of insight if you listen.
Interesting to note the time taken by Kevin Darley discussing Jim McGrath’s filly’s prospects at Newcastle. Darley treats him as someone who knows the business.
Francome acts the ‘big schoolboy’ at times, but he’s been around the block and forgotten more about horses than most of us will ever learn.

thank you for voting and taking the time. Just to say I could only get 9 options. I left Pitman/Scudamore off as they are often teamed with Norman Williamson and further I wanted to concentrate only on those who have been more visible these past few months, and as we know they are mainly Oct-April.
A few others I had to leave out:
Big Mac/Dennis
Tom O’Ryan/Paul Morrison
Robert Cooper/Jason Weaver
Peter Naughton/Mark Howard
Big Mac/Alex Hammond
Hislop/FremantleSome of those are only occasional and not regular enough I thought.
Interesting that Balding/Carson is currently top. I wonder if it reflects on the lack of RUK viewers amongst those who have so far voted. ??
I expected Hislop/Mellish to get the top spot.September 4, 2007 at 18:01 #113610Willie Carson is very knowledgeable and very genuine! He cracks me up when he laughs!
September 6, 2007 at 12:53 #113759Jason Weaver should really be on there… The best pundit ATR have on the english racing (O’Brien is top class for the irish stuff ably supported by Duggan)
Bit unfair on ATR to only put up chapman.. Only one outcome there although I am pleased to see he’s had more votes than Bartlett and Cochrane who are possibly the most boring pair on all racing coverage
September 7, 2007 at 22:14 #113952Thank you all for your contributions which I’ve enjoyed reading. Sorry if your preferred candidates were not on the list.
I declare Balding/Carson to be the narrow winners over Francome/McGrath.
Who would have thought it judging by the stick they get sometimes..lol.
September 8, 2007 at 13:42 #114021Aragorn,
Did you mean British Racing, and not English. Are you not forgetting Chepstow, Bangor and of course a few tracks North of the Border.
Also, I do believe Jason Weaver may well be a Welshman himsellf.
Regards,
Dave
September 8, 2007 at 17:30 #114046No worries Ugly Mare. I wouldn’t have voted for Scu and Pitman because of talent, but purely because they’re legendary

I’m already dreaming of the next Grand National meeting
