If Mark Nelson really believes in his own ratings he’ll be re-mortgaging his house and putting it and this wife and kids on Lough Derg in the National Spirit Hurdle on Sunday
Does look good to complete the three timer I have to admit
February 26, 2010 at 21:18 #279348CS, when looking at these speed ratings, think of the Women’s 800 or 1500 metres in athletics. Come the World Championships or whatever, the best times will all have been done by the Russkis beforehand. That doesn’t mean that they are going to win, but it does mean that they have done the best seasonal times beforehand.

They’re the best performance a horse has put up on the clock not who is the best horse.

March 6, 2010 at 11:20 #280799Hi gang

I have recently joined forces with a mate from my local bookies. (we share a similar general view… regarding betting, and our two heads are working well and also keeping us focused)
Jimmy, my mate, swears by Mark Nelsons Time Test ratings.
The top 3 figures have been producing some big priced winners>>> Gaily Noble 20-1 Gleaming Spirit 20-1 and many more.
Personally I am a Solidus fan.I would like to hear from any other Time Test users, with a view to finding out his speed rating formula. Eventually aiming to write some computer code that will produce these ratings automatically on a,more complete, daily basis.

March 7, 2010 at 11:57 #280961I don’t really understand speed ratings, and it looks like a few others who have contributed to this thread don’t either.
Would someone be good enough to explain them?
March 7, 2010 at 18:37 #281006Hi aji
Hmmm well…
Speed Ratings measure a horse’s performance against the clock.
The following elements are required to produce the rating.eg (+12.65) see racing post
2. Going Correction. This figure adjusts the average
up or down if the ground is Firm or Soft.3. Next a formula is used to produced the actual Speed Rating.
which is then adjust to 10 stone (Flat) 12 stone (Jumps)This is just a rough explaination, but i hope it helps.

Your name brought back happy memories – fantastic animal – how many wins was it in that memorable season? (If you’ll forgive the oxymoron!!!!!!)
March 23, 2011 at 20:58 #346949hi cant think off hand must have been 10 wins..uless someone can correct how many wins nagwa achieved
March 23, 2011 at 21:47 #346956Contentious subject, obviously, but I won’t back a horse than doesn’t have a decent rating by Topspeed and/or Laurence Taylor for ATR and/or Mark Nelson. To use a vogue expression, ‘works for me’.
