Off work today and 2 of my young nephews here playing Top Trumps, which got me thinking has there been any produced with Racehorses? A search of the Net suggests not. I suppose categories could be No. of Races, No. of Wins, Top Speed, Staying Factor, Jumping factor and perhaps Win to Race Ratio. You could then pit the likes of Frankel and Sea The Stars against Kauto Star and Arkle etc. So eg. the Staying Factor of Red Rum of say 10 would wipe the floor with Sole Power of 1 but obviously Sole Power would win the Top Speed battle.
Anybody seen any Racehorse Top Trumps or thought about creating a game?

July 20, 2015 at 21:36 #1139947Brilliant idea!
When I was in sixth form, I came up with the idea of Teacher Top Trumps, with categories like Strictness, Fashion Sense and Amount of Homework. We knocked up a batch with the help of a local printing company and sold them for charity through the school library.
Racehorse Top Trumps would be fantastic, especially if you used measurable categories like the ones you suggested rather than more subjective ones like ‘Ability’ or ‘Jumping Ability’.
All we need is a photoshop wizard, a printing/packaging deal and someone to get patent pending before the BHA or IJF gazump us!

Won a bundle of dollars on Smith 1st innings top run scorer eh, homer?
Great idea this tops trumps, you could split the into two with so many great horses into Flat and Jumps. How about a trainers one and jockeys? or better still a TRF one?…..

£7.99 for a custom pack isn’t bad value imo.

Not at all Nathan. I am allowed some holiday

All great ideas. All we need now is someone with a bit of time to set this up. Shame I don’t have much and probably wouldn’t have the patience to do this anyway.
July 21, 2015 at 09:38 #1140189All nice ideas but you are all fogeting one important thing. Any use of images will be beaching the copyright of the photographer (even for personal use).
July 21, 2015 at 13:17 #1140225Just remember to include a category for “Hype Factor”, so that the O’Brien horses get their due ratings.
Australia (10)
Gleneagles (9)Another category could be “Going versatility”, but the trouble is that the rating could vary wildly according to who allocates the value
Kingman (1) John Gosden
Kingman (10) Every other person on the planetThanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
