Could anyone point me in the right direction ,I would like to get some data, to help. Although I am a hackneyed journeyman of a gambler ,I have recently found more time on my hands than usual and would like to develop my interest in the sport and particularly the info the experts use ( that would be you guys in the main) in determining a horses chance in any given race. If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful

I think you need to be more specific in what you are looking for.
The Racing Post website is free at present and contains a wealth of raw data and useful information, so it’s a very useful tool.
For background information, I would strongly recommend paying a visit to your local bookstore and buying:
The Definitive Guide To Betting On Racing edited by Nick Pulford
Published by Raceform Ltd
ISBN 1-904137-35-9.Also, Alan Potts, who is a regular contributor to the forum, has written two very entertaining books about his occupation as a professional punter. Both are worth reading.
I have details of one of them:
The Inside Track by Alan Potts Aesculus Press
ISBN 1-904328-03-2Hope this helps.
