October 2, 2009 at 07:09 #251220Craig having been blessed to work at home an now across the Pond. Who are some of your favorite race callers.
Do you remember the uproar when Mr Mark Johnson was picked for Churchill. Now I love Tom Durkin but when you out both Derby calls vs each other 1 seen MTB 1 Was very surprised. Again nothing against Tom–I have a great big picture hanging in my race room.
Also Sir do you have time to follow what is happening at home. I’ll end the interrogation. thanks Sir.

October 4, 2009 at 18:52 #251760Hi Bud!
Everywhere I go to commentate, I am inevitably asked by someone who interviews me what I think of Mark Johnson.
So, here is my take:
I am a great admirer of Mark Johnson’s work as a commentator. We both share the belief of doing a great deal of prep work. That shows in Mark’s race-calling and I hope one day will show in mine.
The uproar over his appointment at CD was largely fueled by jealous individuals or individuals who dislike race-callers from overseas. That said, I have always been treated well when I have worked in Kentucky.
Mark gave an excellent Derby call. I think it would be an exaggeration to say he has won over the fans, yet. Mark and his predecessor, Luke Kruytbosch, are very different personalities in that regard.
My favorite all time race caller is the late Raleigh Gilbert.
Of the current bunch in the UK I think Richard Hoiles, Darren Owen and Lee McKenzie are the best.
In the USA, Larry Collmus, Peter Berry and Robert Geller.

October 5, 2009 at 12:39 #251906Thanks for doing it Craig – most enjoyable.
Also well done to Cormack for winning, despite trying to pull up on the run in (blinkers next time?).
October 5, 2009 at 12:49 #251907Aha, so that’s why Corm left Kelso a race or two early – for some last-minute swotting!
Great to catch up with you at last yesterday, sir, and well done on the victory!
