She was way better on the Flat and has yet to convince over hurdles.

I guess the owner is still the one making the decisions. The horse and Tony Mullins deserved better.

When a horse is suited by further on the Flat then the distance of its target over hurdles you have to wonder.

I’d have thought the Pertemps Final would be the best target for a thorough Flat stayer if it wasn’t quite good enough over timber to be aimed at the Stayers’ Hurdle.

But, as we know, the owner pays the bills.

And I somewhat doubt the horse has an opinion on the subject tbh.

The Stayers’ Hurdle could be an option, but because she’s won three times on the Flat at Galway, the owner thinks about the Galway Hurdle.
I still think there will be easier staying races on the Flat than those big field hurdle races. One mistake and you’re right at the back. She is a horse that needs to warm up a bit, so the 2m1f and 2m4f hurdle starts couldn’t do her any justice so far. But, yes Mr. Kehoe pays the bills.

Both Tony and Danny have said she doesn’t like jumping but the owner knows better

As a Group 1 winning mare on the flat surely she should be off to be covered

Didn’t the owner try to sell her as a brood mare but wasnt offered the price he wanted? I just hope nothing bad happens to her if they pursue a jumping career.

She did go to the December Mares sale at Tattersalls and was bought back for 300,000 gns. Whether the currtent owner ever intended to sell is debateable, but half the sale price went to his sister for her share, so that he then owned the mare outright.

Ok, being bought back for 300 grand does this mean that she can’t get pregnant. I’m quite sure that a broodmare of her calibre would cost a lot more. Maybe there is something wrong with her as far as breeding goes.

If you look on the left hand side here, Ex RubyLight, she has a fillies cert: https://www.tattersalls.com/search-results?criterion=Princess+Zoe+%28GER%29
That’s about as much of a guarantee as you’ll get for a maiden mare. Click on the cert if you want the gory details!
Her price might reflect a solid pedigree and unfashionable sire (now targeted mainly at NH), rather than top-notch in terms of the market, and also people might have known that he was basically buying out the sister, unless he got crazy money.

Thank you for the many details, Louise. Now, could you tell me what “stitched” means?

Otherwise it is a very informative link.

This describes the procedure, Ex RubyLight: https://thehorse.com/196412/caslicks-in-mares-why-and-how/
I’m not sure if it says it in this article, but sometimes trainers do it for fillies in training, if they think they are ‘taking in air’.

The owner had a meltdown on twitter apparently after Cheltenham

    And now he’s done this

“Ok, being bought back for 300 grand does this mean that she can’t get pregnant.”

No, she won one grade 1 at a very unfashionable distance. Most of the winners of the Prix du Cadran in recent years were, or are now, geldings, that’s how worthless it is in breeding terms. If you’re going to be doing your winning at 12+ furlongs you’d better be able to back it up plenty of times.
Serpentine has been gelded, Pour Moi’s stud fee is a paltry €2500. Even Yeats’ fee is only €5000.

Out of interest, what would you likely end up with if you was to breed her with a sprint stallion? A mile/middle distance horse or just a really slow sprinter?

I have absolutely no idea about breeding but often wondered what the likely outcome would be.
