Thanks to Nathan for his help in finding both versions from the archives.
Nathan’s idea was based upon a quick return to the racing scene and I will try to apply something a little special to winners within a week trying to repeat the feat whilst still fit and perhaps ahead of the handicapper.
Although SKY DIAMOND 7.50 Kempton will be trying tomorrow to do just this it is NOT a system selection and so: –
There are not any qualifiers for Wednesday

September 6, 2011 at 21:28 #370272Not a problem Bill.
I bet your good at getting things quickly amended, your wife is very forgiving after all those nights frolicking you get up to with Matron. How do you do it, bouquet of flowers, box of chocolates, something else???

I don’t suppose you care to divulge your something a little special with which your applying to the system?
I will watch with interest, good luck.

September 7, 2011 at 08:57 #370306Hello
Nathan
I am the master of spin and mystery or as my wife puts it , I have a bigger nose than Pinocchio and so perhaps it may prove NOT to be such a good thing but let us wait and see.
Because I am not expecting too many selections I am planning to take a little bit of advice from something the great VDW once said which was something like this: –
The average punter wastes his money on unworthy selections and should wait until the "good thing" comes along and if he put his daily betting budget to one side and then lumped it all on the "good thing" he would be far better off.
(My inerpretation of his words and meaning [forgive me
Formath
] but not as eloquently put).
With this advice in mind I am making a daily allowance of jusr £1 but if just like buses they all come along at once so bet it I will divide what is in the pot between the selections.
It is not original and it may not prove to be the best way to stake but it is manageable and will help to control what is left after my wife has spent the pension.
Day 1 – no selection – £1 credit

I’m with you all the way that Patience and discipline is the right way to go Bill, I’m trying the method myself of waiting for what I consider a good one in the daily lays and plays thread Wealth Warning.
I’m not sure about lumping it all on the good thing though as say you wait 20 days and lump the lot on it could still lose then the next day another good thing turns up and your back at a quid stake and it wins. Playing a percentage of what you have saved is the way I would go.

September 7, 2011 at 11:52 #370345Although these ar not my thoughts
Nathan
but as said are those of VDW, there is some good advice within the sentiment if not taken out of context.
Let’s just say "the good thing" comes along at 2/1 and perhaps the frequent gamblers average daily loss is £1 and he has waited 10 days.
GOOD THING is out there at 2/1 and Frequent Gambler has avoided having any bets during his 10 day wait and then lumps on all his £10 and GOOD THING proves to be not such a good thing Frequent Gambler is no worse off than he would have been anyway.
BUT. Should GOOD THING prove to be exactly what its name implies then jolly ol’ Frequent Gambler has £30 in his pocket.
Is this not a Win Win situation?
I have not experimented with this method before and am interested to see how it performs but a lot will depend on GOOD THING.
As you say Good Thing could prove to be a plonker and THE NEXT GOOD THING could come out the day after all has been lost and win at 2/1 and all Frequent Gambler walks away with in his pocket is his bus fair home £3
I don’t have an answer for that other than – That’s Life!
However if
MrE
or
Formath
ever crawl out of their bunkers I am sure they will have an opinion, don’t you?

September 7, 2011 at 12:32 #370350Thursday’s selection.
DONCASTER 3.00 GOLDPLATED available 28/1
V Chandler BOG 2 places @1/4 £1.00 e/w
LOST!
This was not quite the start I expected and was tempted to "keep mum" and say nothing but curiosity got the better of me.Gold Plated won September 3rd at Leopardstown in a handicap.
It was a big field as most of the Irish races are and obliged at 20/1.
Why has the trainer elected to bring it to Doncaster for a GROUP 2 race?
Has he lost all his marbles or does he know something we don’t?
So with an unspent £1 from Wednesday plus a £1 for Thursday it is lumped on at 28/1 e/w.

September 8, 2011 at 11:17 #370441Bill,
I am still here lurking about in the brushes, pruning them mainly at this time of year
. I see you are still referring to Van der Wheil so why not just follow the principles he advised? For example every race today at Donny is of a class that lends itself to the method – you know £class, consistency, Formcast, RPR:Doncaster (my possible is underlined)
1.25 Poetic Dancer, Amis Returns, Besito
1.55 Chachamaidee, Alanza, Dever Dream
2.25 Bogart, Mehdi, Reply
3.00 Set To Music, Meeznah, Sense Of Purpose
3.35 Rawaafed, Hyperlink, Imperial Order
4.10 Dimension,Farlow,Damika
4.40 Chain Lightning, Club Oceanic, JutlandSeptember 8, 2011 at 15:38 #370465Hiya
Formath
, it sounds as if your good wife is still keeping you hard at it – good for her, I say.

Only you could drop a 20/1 winner in the first posting – Well Done Sir

Now, you know I have had my problems with VDW and try as I may I am unable to master the full technique.
I am not a critic and hold all the man has said with the untmost respect, hence I am quite happy to quote his principles such as the one highlighted in this thread and I am sure no one will dispute we have all at some time or another been guilty of chasing winners and only finding losers resulting in happy layers and unhappy punters.
All I am trying to do here is demonstrate his logic but with better selections than the one today which I must hold my hands up and say was a mistake

I have never tried it but here is hoping it works otherwise I will end up with egg on my face yet again.
Keep posting them 20/1 winners as long as you like and I must say it is good to hear from you again, very good indeed.

Well there are a few 7 dayers around today: –
Downhill Skier 5.25 Chester
One Scoop or Two 4.20 Chester
Darnathean 2.35 Chester
Focail Eile 5.00 Sandown
All My Heart 6.10 Wolverhampton
But I will swerve all the above in favour of

LOST

With only £1 to punt it is impossible to spread it so thinly between them all and in truth I really don’t want to and so I going e/w with bet365 at 8/1 BOG.

Two losers on the trot and another selection today, they are certainly coming quicker than I expected and I am making a small change from Frequent Gamblers modus operandi. I am increasing the stakes to £2 in order to facilitate each way bets.
I really fancied Kathleen Kennet (2.45 Bath) and would certainly not put anyone off having a little bet but I have an aversion to betting when 5lb and 7lb claimers.
Dazakhee (4.30 Bath) was another which may have tempted the pound from my pocket but has turned out to be a non runner.
My choice today is: –
Kempton 8.55
4/1 Ladbrokes (best early BOG price)
£1 each way – 3 places @ 1/4

Bill….it’s worth noting that Katia Scallan (7) rode the mare to win her last two outings.

Yeah, I know this and is why I said I would not put anyone off from choosing to have a bet. You were right and I was wrong, well it won at 9/4

LOST!
No selections for Sunday, Monday. Tuesday but there is a 7 day winner returning Wednesday Roy’s Legacy 2.20 Sandown but sadly it does not enjoy that little bit of star-dust I am looking for and so the un-invested stakes are growing i.e £1 ew starter stake for Sunday plus £1 Monday and Tuesday and now Wednesday and so I will carry forward £5 and hope there will be a selection on Thursday.

September 15, 2011 at 09:02 #371004Bill, good luck with todays picks. I reckon you’ve got yourself a winner today in Illustrious Prince, sorry for the kiss of death there……….not

I didn’t know if you knew but I’m starting a footy comp this Saturday a bit long ‘winded’ like MrE as it lasts the whole season but I thought you might want to try your luck. All you would have to do is throw in a few correct scores to go along with your picks(the 3 from the mail
) plus someone to score a goal, I see Bradley Wright-Phillips is doing well to date, I think it was you Bill who picked him out last year as a goal machine. What do you say? Plus we need someone to prop up the leaderboard…….
