Looking at the betting for this juvenile fillies speed test I was fairly strongly drawn to Besharah from the William Haggas stable. She made a taking debut in a race that is working out quite well and looks a decent proposition to my eyes at 8/1.
The favourite Easton Angel has looked speedy for Michael Dods but her wins at Musselburgh and Beverley look a bit removed from the finery of Royal Ascot, albeit she is an interesting prospect.
Kurland caught a few eyes when making a good start for Martyn Meade at Newmarket but although the 3rd won a Windsor maiden, the runner up was thumped twice since, including when evens favourite.
What I like about Haggas’ horse is that she was held up in a 5f race and came with a good turn of foot to win cosily. There is more to come from her and this daughter of Kodiac is entered in a Novice Stakes at Windsor tomorrow and I doubt we will get the betting guide 9/4 price. A good win should set her up for Royal Ascot and she has already won at the course.
Queen Mary Besharah 8/1
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

June 3, 2015 at 11:16 #1090345I can see the attraction with Besharah. Same owner as Rizeena who won this a couple of years ago and also won at Ascot, and so many don’t even handle that track.
Personally I was just as impressed with Easton Angel, who took a decent looking Hilary Needler field apart, the jockey was taking a tug at the two furlong pole which you rarely see in five furlong races. She did a slightly quicker speed figure I think than the colt First selection did when he won on the same card. One thing I always do at Ascot is back horses that can travel well, because the very fast pace that races tend to be run at during the the Royal Meeting can seen them improve even further.
Easton Angel also ran quick on her debut at Musselburgh beating some colts. She’s the quickest two year old they have in the North now she has to prove herself against the Southern lot. Trainer thinks a lot of her. However the cat is out of the bag to some degree and it’s not like she’s 10-1.
Royal Ascot two year old races are a bit of a minefield of course. I think it’s a mistake to take a short price about any runners, because there are so many unknowns. Doubtless Wesley Ward will send over some souped-up speed machines as well, like he normally does, when it’s difficult to gauge how good they are

I wouldn’t take 4/1 Besharah, 8/1 was OK in the circumstances. I highly respect Easton Angel but her first win doesn’t seem to amount to much, and it’s too early to say how the other one will pan out. In contrast Besharah’s first race has seen three winners emerge for a wee boost and although not landing the odds in the manner 3/10 would indicate, she was very strongly backed on her second start and the Hannon trained debutant who was second may yet frank that form. She was getting 7lbs from the Haggas filly as well, so the 2 length margin doesn’t reflect the actual superiority.
As you say, Wesley Ward usually has some fast ones lined up and he’s more than capable of winning with them, so that is a potential banana skin.
Racing Post have Besharah on 92 and Easton Angel on 90, so there is not a lot in it for the moment. Third in the betting Kurland is rated 83 but has only had the one start so far. Kevin Ryan’s Ashadihan is next in the betting and is rated 86 on RPR with also only one run under her belt, but she won over 6f at Haydock and I prefer to side with 5f form here.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
