For thoese concerned and majorly distraught with the welfare of Twice Over;
Cecil, who also saddled Father Time in the Marathon, said: "They seem fine after their races and hopefully will travel back well."
November 9, 2009 at 22:22 #258089I dooubt if the owner or trainer will have any complaints about Tom and how he performed at the meeting.
November 9, 2009 at 23:31 #258094I think there is a overreaction, yes it was bad but Queally at the start of the year hadn’t a G1 to his name this year, he now has 3, and was battling in the finish getting Twice Over home in his first ever Classic and he is still young.
Also this is the US where in someplaces they whip the horse who misbehave at the start.
November 9, 2009 at 23:58 #258097Aside to the obvious welfare concerns most people would have over this, I think Queally has disappointed a number of us who have been following him this season, as his, to my eyes, brutal demonstration would seem unprofessional and unforgiveable to many of us I think, and I would be surprised if Mr Cecil wasn’t a little taken aback by it himself.
Bearing in mind that the best jockey that ever rode for him, I believe, was Steve Cauthen and I couldn’t imagine Steve ever riding like that even at the same age, could you?November 11, 2009 at 14:40 #258224

My impression about Twice Over is that he has always been a somewhat indolent animal who has therefore never shown his true potential in a race. He’s been frustrating until now.
He ran a good few pounds better than his former ratings last Saturday, and it certainly wasn’t for want of the vigorous "encouragement" which surprised so many of us over here, accustomed as we are to the
six-strikes-with-a-feather-duster-and-you’re-out
school of animal welfare.
I imagine if Prince Khaled and/or Henry Cecil didn’t like what they saw, then they will have made their displeasure known to Tom Queally. From what
I
saw, Twice Over himself did not look at all distressed after the race.
Some posters need to get this sort of thing into perspective.

November 11, 2009 at 15:42 #258231I saw Twice Over back in his stable about 40 minutes after his race. His lad said that he’d been squealing leaving the testing barn and he thought he was fresh enough to race again immediately.
