Think he was just run out of it by Moloney. Form could be correct. Good lay for Chelt in my view although apparently he blew a lot afterward so may improve.
February 12, 2010 at 16:08 #275859A funny old stop start sort of race.
AP looked to be pulling double and for all the world looked the winner throughout. However, either the horse with the silly name doesn’t find much off the bit or the champion jockey made a complete botch of it.
You decide.

February 12, 2010 at 16:31 #275864Or maybe JP McManus is smiling at all those big prices as we speak ?
A bit far fetched i know, he usually does it with handicappers. As Himself said, he was walking all over them. He really ought to have found more.

I suppose if he was really top class he would have won that but it was a bit of a typical 5-6 runner muddling race.
Don’t forget Cheltenham is just round the corner. He wouldn’t be 100% at this stage as none of Nicky’s ever are and as someone pointed out he was blowing hard after the race. Where does Nicky like to run his novices that need sharpened up ?….Kempton!!!
Had he won by a length or so the bookies would have cut him to about 5/1 now you can get 16/1.
Be a whole different ball game at Cheltenham and much more emphasis put on staying. He was never aplanned bet for me but I certainly wouldn’t write him off if I had backed him.
February 12, 2010 at 17:14 #275876…another one bites the dust!
Back to the drawing board as far as finding a third option to Rite Of Passage or Peddlers Cross
February 12, 2010 at 18:17 #275894I think it was a poor race personally, and i don’t think the form will stand up that well from it.
The pace was too slow, they will definitely go faster at Cheltenham and i think that will play to the strengths of the JP McManus owned horse.

JP’s best chance at The Festival has to be Carde Champetre

The problem is we don’t know the strengths. He was not outpaced at all and if stamina was his strength he really should have been cutting the winner back. If Henderson was seriously happy with that he must be in cuckoo land.
February 25, 2010 at 15:50 #279079Coral Cup entry. Henderson and JP have had ample opportunity to warn punters so why nothing? I suppose on past history you expect nothing better from JP who is basically only interested in one punter but surely Henderson could have done better?

Warn punters about what? Surely its one of several entries it will hold before now and the end of the season? I’m guessing they will see what the weights are and decide from there. In my view, the winner of that last race was underestimated due to the fact that 3 "bigger" yards had entries. But its form was rock solid and he was obviously well thought of to have been made favourite on debut.

Sorry I thought that was obvious. It has never been suggested that this horse was going to run anywhere other than the condition races. I think you will find that of the others who have headed the novice markets it is only the JP horses that have been given handicap entries. Either the horse is potentially a Grade 1 performer or not?
