The same can be said for GW though EW.
Correct EC and looking forward to em meeting
Court Masterpiece who has a rating of 128+. This would give them a TF for GW of 135
Aye and thats what happens when yer "yardstick" handicap, but i presume TF don’t use RPR methods, but i could be wrong

When it came to Breeders Cup night he was beaten into second with European second raters like Majors Cast, Whipper and co beaten noses and short heads. A 127 horse my arse!

Aidan
So to use your logic, ROG 128 RPR my arse
September 24, 2006 at 11:29 #96769Aidan
Using "yardsticks"
Whipper/Majors Cast beaten by the QEII 1st and 2nd, 128/129 horses, that makes Whipper/ Majors Cast around 123/124 horses? ( above average European G1 winning RPR’s)
That would put the winner Artie Schiller at around 126, the horse you mention on 125, with him running 2lb below his previous mark, Whipper/Majors Cast running more or less to their marks
now i don’t know about you, but i wouldn’t say "My Arse" about a rating that was probably only 2lb out, with Whipper/Majors Cast running to thier marks or are Starcraft’s/Dubawi’s ratings "My Arse" too?

He did. Still think Proclamation was overpriced on his Sussex form.

"I’ve raised both Araafa (second) and Killybegs (fourth) by 5lb"
Why please?
September 24, 2006 at 16:35 #96772by Rodney Masters and Tony O’Hehir

NOT quite yet rubbing shoulders with greatness. Although George Washington was the classiest winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes since Godolphin’s Dubai Millennium in 1999, he remains 5lb shy of the performance recorded by another Godolphin star, Mark Of Esteem, ten years ago.
Racing Post handicapper Paul Curtis raised George Washington, who was reported in good shape by trainer Aidan O’Brien on Sunday, to a rating of 131, an increase of 4lb on the 2,000 Guineas, but on Sunday questioned whether his opponents were quite of the same calibre seen in many previous runnings of the Ascot contest.

"While there is probably no such thing as a weak St James’s Palace, this certainly wouldn’t go down as a strong one"
Celebration Mile
"A Group 1 contest on paper but in practice a race run at the sort of speed at which a piece of work at home is conducted"
Curtis:
" there’s little doubt that Group 1 winners over a mile this year haven’t been a match for many of the equivalent winners"
But still he raises Araafa and Killybegs 5lb

September 24, 2006 at 18:27 #96774Dont worry empty wallet, you will get great prices about Aragorn and co in the Breeders Cup mile, you should be happy everyone else thinks so highly of George.
September 24, 2006 at 18:50 #96775Great Prices is my middle name
;)
September 24, 2006 at 19:39 #96776Paul Curtis quote – "although there remains a question mark over whether they are that good and I’ll be looking to them to uphold the form"
He obviously has doubts himself EW. They’ve been raised to accomodate the raising of George’s rating I suspect.
Was GW’s performance really 5lb worse than that of Mark of Esteem?
September 24, 2006 at 20:22 #96777Indeed, so then it’s not a 131 perfomance is it
Time of the race which Curtis seems to fail to mention is below what would be expected for a race of this type, as EC speedfugure shows, now’t special, time and form are intertwinned, so the rating should also reflect, now’t special, just an average QE II performance with + or P

125 isn’t an exceptional time figure really..it’s what a really decent G1 horse should achieve. 130 is something special..above that exceptional.
Looking at how GW achieved the 125..never got cajoled…..I would say he has the potential to achieve the 130+
Agreed EC
Out of interest do you have available your timefigures for any/all of the performances below? They are those between 1/1/95 and 31/12/05 that returned a Timeform timefigure of >130, along with the corresponding RP Topspeed. Don’t know if there were any this year as I haven’t subscribed to TF’s 2006 Flat database.
3/5/97 Entrepreneur 131 ?
3/5/98 Cape Verdi 131 124
16/6/98 Intikhab 135 129
25/7/98 Swain 131 127
17/8/99 Royal Anthem 138 116
17/5/03 Hawk Wing131 128
21/8/03 Oasis Dream 133 118
14/5/05 Rakti 133 100
No way do I want to enter into a debate along the lines of ‘who’s are accurate/best/correct’ simply interested to know if your figures mirror TF or TS or are somewhere in between.
Feel free to ignore if it’s too time consuming a request; it’s of no great importance.

Don’t know/can’t remember how strong/weak these races were, but looking at em, this looks far superior to GW’s Field

September 24, 2006 at 22:06 #96783Totally agree EC, stick a + on end, but keep the rating realistic
