Rip Van Winkle’s performance at Goodwood was both authoritative and impressive. With Goldikova staying in France, I will be hugely disappointed if he does not win this.

What "H" is trying to say is he pissed up last time and will do the same again
September 26, 2009 at 05:02 #250149My befuddled brain tells me RVW wins, but my razor sharp gut tells me he doesn’t.

Try Alka Zeltzer
September 26, 2009 at 12:47 #250165I expect Rip Van Winkle to win but if he is beaten by Aqlaam, who is clearly miles behind Goldikova, there will be a strong argument for suggesting this year’s crop of 3yo’s (and that includes Sea The Stars) have been vastly overrated.
September 26, 2009 at 14:13 #250178I’ve got a confession to make. I’m looking forward to watching this afternoon’s racing as I didn’t see it last year because I was working.
After the St James’s Palace I complained to the pub landlord about Jimmy Fortune’s tactics, and his reply was that Raven’s Pass would never beat Henrythenavigator.
In addition to never seeing last year’s QE2, I also haven’t seen Fantasia in the Mile. Saw her other races though.
I’m slightly surprised that Delegator is the second favourite, instead of Aqlaam. Do performances in G1s on foreign soil get devalued or something?
September 26, 2009 at 14:40 #250182I can’t believe how few horses there are in this race; although I dug out a racecard from when I went to Ascot years ago and there were 9 runners, @70% of which were owned by Sheikh Mo.Is it because it is so close to The Arc and more British horses go to France at this time of the year? Having said that, small fields don’t neccessarily mean boring races, so I’m still looking forward to it. Do like Aqlaam,

The Moulin wasn’t great by Group 1 standards, Gerald, and the proximity of Gladiatorus to the winner doesn’t inspire confidence in the form. Given that Aqlaam was absolutely nutted by Goldikova prior to that (I thought at the time that the result was slightly false, but she could just be a cut above), I wouldn’t be shy in taking him on in any half-decent race.
Delegator has run well behind both Sea The Stars and Mastercraftsman (who has also run well behind Sea The Stars, if readily outclassed in the end) and has to rate a better prospect this afternoon.
All of that said, Rip Van Winkle should stuff the lot of them.
September 26, 2009 at 15:19 #250190Think I’m gonna waste a fiver on Zacinto
September 26, 2009 at 16:27 #250202Outsider of 3/4..25/1…..tipped in the Independent today. Why not! We’ll all be kicking ourselves later today if it wins…..

I wrote a piece on Zacinto for his last race if anyone fancies a read, I am on at fancy odds the horse does need a fast pace though beware.
September 26, 2009 at 19:29 #250220Fair play to AOB and RVW – done it the hard way by their usual methods.
Aqlaam didn’t turn up today, it seems…
The winner wasn’t doing tap in front and gets further and Zacinto is something to look forward to.

Argh so close!! thought he had Rip Van Winkle cooked inside the final furlong but Rip Van Winkle just went again when challenged, amazing horse.
September 26, 2009 at 19:32 #250222Wow! Rip Van Winkle told us everything we need to know
…Sea The Stars is the best miler in the country. Wait a minute, we already knew that.
September 26, 2009 at 19:53 #250223It wasn’t as close from the side cam as it looked in running. Rip dug deep though, and i think he will improve for a flat 10. From the side you could see that he was always going to get more.
September 26, 2009 at 19:59 #250225STS vs RVW Breeders Cup Classic?
Could make for interesting viewing!
September 26, 2009 at 20:21 #250227Good performance by RVW noting his problems.
After the race, Willie Carson said he was best miler in europe. Got to seriously disagree with that and can think of two better.
If STS does go to Breeders Cup, the Classic should be a great race.
