    Hi all,

Firstly I am really sorry if I have put this in the incorrect section (@Admin – please move where necessary) but I was hoping for some travel advice to/from Punchestown races please.

I am keen to attend the festival on Friday 29th April but due to work commitments I need to fly and return on the same day.

Getting out to Dublin is easy enough but the last flight from Dublin back to Stansted is 21.55.

As you need to be at the airport 2 hours before, it would mean I would need to leave after the penultimate race, which last year was scheduled at 19.05. Assuming this race finished at 19.15, it would mean I would have 45 minutes to get back from Punchestown to Dublin Airport.

Upon looking at Marathon travel (which is recommended on the Punchestown website), it appears their coaches do not leave the racecourse until 20.15, meaning I would miss my flight home.

Also, after looking at the Dublin Coach schedule (also referenced on the Punchestown website), I would need to get a taxi into Naas centre and then catch a coach from there but again, in order to make my flight home I would need to miss at least 3 races, possibly 4.

I have also checked the trains but these are every hour and only go back to Dublin City Centre, meaning you would still need to take a taxi from the city centre to the airport, which is still a fair way away.

I am keen to avoid an overnight stay and an unjustified expensive hotel due to only needing it for a few hours. Therefore I was wondering whether anyone has previously travelled to Punchestown and managed to do it in a day? As mentioned, I don’t mind missing the last race but dont want to miss too many races otherwise it is not worthwhile.

If anyone can share any insight, I would be most grateful.

    Thanks

Easy: don’t go. Save yourself a lot of stress and reduce your carbon footprint in one easy step.

Sorry but I think it would be very difficult, probably impossible, to do a day trip.

I have not been since 2000 but one thing I do remember is the traffic was horrendous. Unless it has improved, I would be very doubtful about getting from the racecourse to the airport quickly.
