Only a few weeks to go can’t wait for it anyone know what horses will turn up and in which races as well.
March 30, 2010 at 17:53 #286558Voler La vedette will go for the Champion Hurdle at Punchestown

Meade is keeping his fingers crossed Pandorama will return to action at Punchestown next month
Go Native has been ruled out for the rest of the season after returning home "very sore" following his disappointing Champion Hurdle display
Glencove Marina an impressive winner ate the weekend …"We’ll look forward to Punchestown now and I’d imagine he’ll have to go for the Guinness Gold Cup. J’y Vole and Cooldine will also be going for that race.
Final Approach (4/7) made a winning debut in the opening Sean Graham Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle. The four-year-old scored by nine lengths from Fearnwood Girl.Mullins’ assistant Harold Kirk said: "He will probably go to Punchestown now for one of the four-year-old races. He’s a smart horse and he jumped really well."
Tranquil Sea will bid to bounce back to form at next month’s Punchestown Festival after his disappointing display in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham
Quote from handler:
"For some reason the Festival hasn’t been as kind to him as we’d like but each time he has come back and run well at Punchestown.
"He won the Grade One novice hurdle there and he was touched off in the big novice handicap chase, so we’d be delighted if he could do the same again. He will probably step up in trip for the Guinness Gold Cup"Willie Mullins is considering stepping talented mare Quevega up to three miles for the first time at next month’s Punchestown Festival, "She’ll be entered in the three-mile race as well as the Champion Hurdle that she ran so well in last year."I’m not sure Punchestown brings her stamina into play enough over two miles, so, for that reason, she might run over the longer trip."
Willie Mullins is working hard to get his star hurdler Hurricane Fly back to peak fitness in time for Punchestown next month He said:
"He looks good and strong, is back on the gallop and we’ll have a go at getting him ready for the Punchestown festival now"

Solwhit will not bid for back-to-back wins in the Aintree Hurdle at Liverpool and will instead go to Punchestown
Looks to be just as good as the festival, if not even better dare I say??
March 30, 2010 at 19:30 #286577Definitely not better than Cheltenham. Not even close.
March 30, 2010 at 20:06 #286586No, you’re right. It’s still going to be great though, although the ground will be terrible (like last year).
March 30, 2010 at 22:52 #286613Hard to judge what the ground will be with the festival still three weeks off. The weather has been cat the past few days but if we get a dry week or two it wouldn’t be long drying out.
It’s a pity they haven’t scrapped the Saturday card and gone back to a proper 4-day festival. On the plus side though the evening cards worked well last year and were much handier for people working in the mornings!

Well said Imperial, on both fronts. The Saturday card is the poor relation to the rest of the week. The evening meetings do mean an awful long wait during the day for the racing though, well worth the wait though.
March 31, 2010 at 21:15 #286806Punchestown is neither better nor worse than Cheltenham, just different. Much much more relaxed and in that sense very enjoyable.
After the big UK stables had a lean Cheltenham, surely they will raid Punchestown this year in decent numbers? Especially Alan King?
March 31, 2010 at 23:37 #286839Does King have the ammunition though?
Mille Chief is out and they’re talking about retirment for Voy Por Ustedes.
Karabak would have a shout in the Stayers but Quevega should take all the beating in that provided she stays the three miles.
Medermit looks short of Champion Hurdle class and the two mile hurdle could end up being a very decent race if Solwhit, Punjabi and Hurricane Fly show up.
Bensalem looks a decent chaser in the making but he has got to get his jumping together and will struggle to live with a fully fit Pandorama on soft ground IMO.
April 15, 2010 at 19:19 #290495I’m amazed at the apparent lack of interest in this meeting.
Where is everyone?
Some serious racing as far as I can see with some solid loking betsThe going, of course, will play it’s part but with the first two days cards online, I’ve shortlisted several with chances, none better, and probably the banker of the meeting, is the Scottish Hunter chaser
Quotica De Poyans
who is entered in final race on Wednesday, this is one serious horse who is destined for far better things
Arabella Boy
is entered on Wednesday in the 3 mile hurdle and has been crying out for this longer trip.
Sizing Europe
should put the more experienced chasers to the sword on Tuesday.
IfMary Spring Rice
has a "proper" jockey she could spring a surprise at a big price in The 4-Y-O Bumper on Tuesday, she has shown real promise in her two races but runs far too freely for her usual 7lb claimer
I’m not giving up onDunguib
either …wherever he runs …although he’d need to be at this very best to beat
Voler La Vedette
if they meet in The Champion Hurdle…it looks between the two
Outlaw Pete
has improved all season and is well worth an ew on the opening cross country
Denman
if he runs looks a penalty kick.
I doubt ifPandorama
will get the ground he needs but if it rains……
Garde Champetre
will no doubt land the La Touce Cup cross country and although I’ve not found an entry yet for
For Bill
she would be a banker wherever she runs.
More opinions once the last three days cards are available
April 15, 2010 at 19:43 #290499Couldn’t possibly have Denman going right-handed. I always remember a quote from Findlay.
‘Denman will never right-handed. He went right-handed once and he turned into a bull.’
Would prefer to be on Joncol. Cooldine had a tough race at Cheltenham and hasn’t learnt to settle. Townend did him no favours that day.
April 15, 2010 at 20:08 #290504Wedger Pardy
April 16, 2010 at 10:59 #290575Surely Denman won’t make Punchestown with the forecast at the minute? The course are only planning a light watering but the ground must be drying out fast? I do think Joncol can put it up to him if they do meet, Joncol is Ireland’s best hope of a top class decent staying chaser at the minute since…………….well when did Ireland really have a top class decent staying chaser?
April 16, 2010 at 11:11 #290579I feel that the Punchestown meeting is one to go to rather than try to find winners at. Not that I’m much good at finding winners at the best of times, but I found Punchestown well nigh impossible. However, while it’s on I just ache to be in Naas for those few days and just imagine myself there.

Beef Or Salmon…

Beef Or Salmon…
His inability to perform at Cheltenham I think rules him out of the ‘top class’ division. The top class horses have to be able to perform anywhere and he was so disappointing at Cheltenham.
April 16, 2010 at 11:41 #290587The truly great horses can perform anywhere – the top class horses can win Grade 1 races. Beef Or Salmon was top class on his day as is Denman. Kauto Star is a great horse
April 16, 2010 at 11:42 #290588How does his poor performances across the water mean he cannot be top class?!
Supposehe never did much over here either, what was it, 10 Grade 1s?
