For the casual punter with a copy of the Racing Post this method of form study can cut down a big field handicap in no time. If I’m ever at the races for a day out I’ll eliminate all horses which have failed to win under today’s conditions – I limit it to distance, going and class of race.

I reserve the method for 4yo+ handicaps as you need a nice bunch of exposed handicappers for this sort of system to work well.

Another ‘profiling’ form of study that pays dividends is looking for front runners likely to get an unopposed lead. It used to be one of my favourite punting methods as horses that have to lead frequently don’t have conditions to suit and are almost inevitably well handicapped on the occasions when they will get an unopposed lead.

OK – an example of my ‘lazy guy’ profiling method. Look at the 3.15 at Lingfield tomorrow. The only horse in the field to have won an 8f class 5 handicap on polytrack is Prince of Thebes.

    KIPCHAK

    1.00 Lingfield

    all runs: 19%

    Class 6: 234111613162011 [47%]
    Other class: 71345137048388035086364415747578554955 [8%]

    Lingfield AW+Turf: 11110157811 [64%]
    Other courses: 723434513704838835086361364416472507554955 [7%]

When running at Lingfield in Class 6:

    111111

Today he runs in Class 5,

    BUT

its only a 0-65 which is technically a class 6. Most Class 5’s are 0-75.

He is on a winning mark after running in a series of higher class races.

Winston takes over today, he is 2/5 on him.

Bumping this thread as it’s too interesting to slip four pages down the board.

Unlucky with Kipchak, Slowhand – I think having Bookiesindex Girl egging him on for the lead, to the ultimate detriment of both, robbed you of any sort of prospects with him that time. Remains of interest, though less so this week with both entries at Kempton on Sunday.
