Looking back to Aintree, I was interested to see how the Racing Post Ratings and Topspeed had performed. They usually do quite well at the bigger meetings where the form is more reliable and it’s a bit of ‘quality control’ because together they form the backbone of my own ratings.
Both showed a lsp.
RPRs had 7 winners out of 21, with 4 placed to yield a return of 26.35pts to a 1pt win on each selection.
Topspeed had 5 winners and 3 placed out of 19, to give a return of 26.94pts to a 1pt win.
My own ratings produced 5 winners(one was joint-top) from 20(1NR) to return 19.19pts, a small loss.

The evening racing starts today and it becomes increasingly difficult, even for those with plenty of time on their hands, to seek out the best system bets for all meetings. I’m afraid I haven’t got any short cuts that I’m happy with, otherwise I would pass them on. <br>

I’ve rated the Stratford card and the main Wincanton race, but cannot find any qualifying bets that can be recommended at a value price.

Pontefract is today’s chosen card. Only one race, the 3.10 (6f H’cap) produced a qualifying score(+10 or more).<br>The top-rated, FLYING BANTAM 114(+14) is clear of Sarister(111) and Kingscross(110). I’m taking a chance that the continuing rain will ease the ground further and that the field will come over to the stands side.

I also rated the 5.20 (6f App H’cap) at Windsor.<br>SAVILE’S DELIGHT 97(+12) came out best ahead of Devon Flame 95. There doesn’t look to be much strength in depth in the race and a low draw might be ok given more rain and the fact that the usually favoured stand rail has been taken out of the equation by changes to the course layout.
