“Might there be a slight worry about him on soft ground?”
He’s won on everything so far. And Cracksman loved it soft.
June 4, 2023 at 15:49 #1650523I would hope they give him a break and go to something like the Irish Champion next followed by the Arc. He’s had a quite busy season already.

Fair comment, CAS – it’s an unknown.
“I would hope they give him a break”
The summer break is the French way, Mike.
They know how to lay their horses out for their biggest race.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 4, 2023 at 18:13 #1650545Sporting Life: The winning time of 2:02.63 was a track record, beating that recoded by Sottsass who won the same race for Rouget in 2019. He went on to finish third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe that same season, before triumphing in the European middle-distance championship the following year.
Asked if he is a horse who could head to Longchamp in the autumn, Rouget confirmed: “I think he has got the profile. He is that type, he has that stride. I think he will prefer better ground.
“He will have to try to emulate Sottsass, who was effective in both good ground and soft ground. There are other races before the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe obviously, but we will aim him at the Arc.”

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
June 11, 2023 at 22:34 #1651277Why not for this year?
I’d like to see them chuck her into the Irish oaks next
Then Yorkshire Oaks if she wins
Only thing is she looked to have a pretty low top of the ground action
There was something sea of class like about the turn of foot she showed today
June 11, 2023 at 22:38 #1651278I don’t think they will rush her
didn’t run as a two year old
I suppose if she keeps winning they could, just think another year behind her and more experience maybe better for her but that’s just my opinionGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
June 11, 2023 at 23:01 #1651280About Al Asifah, how many Arc runners have they had in the past? Sheikha Hissa was in no rush to send Baaeed to the Arc last year and her late father won the race back in 2001 with Sakhee. Nashwan was retired after flopping on soft ground in the Prix Niel and their operation didn’t seem to target the race at all.
Though you have to admit that Sakhee was quite an outstanding Arc winner.
June 11, 2023 at 23:15 #1651281Baaeed ran over a mile for a fair few races before stepping up to 10f
Al Asifah already running over 10f so not quite the jump Baaeed would be taken and already 12f being talked about for her next run in Irish Osks

June 11, 2023 at 23:48 #1651282I would worry about testing ground for her in an Arc (although her dam was a half sister to Irish 2000g winner Awtaad who won on soft) and even though she started her career at 10F neither the dam or half sibling won at or went further than that trip – with her fast ground action, if you got a dry year then she could be a player receiving the allowances assuming she kepts progressing at the same rate.
I would however suspect that connections will likely stick to her own sex with races like the Irish Oaks, Yorkshire Oaks, Nassau Stakes, Prix Vermeille, Prix L’Opera or BC Filly and Mare Turf all potential options – you also wouldn’t be shy in dropping her back to a mile either for races like the Falmouth Stakes, Matron Stakes or Sun Chariot.
Will be interesting to see how Gosden juggles it with all the other top fillies/mares he has in the yard (Emily Upjohn, Inspiral, Nashwa, Free Wind, Soul Sister and potentially Running Lion).
June 13, 2023 at 07:58 #1651356The question I ask myself is how many of the Arc field on the day could have beaten the OR 94-rated Empress Wu by an easy six and a half lengths?
I think it would be hard to name many who couldn’t.
12/1 for the Arc is not making much appeal – I’d rather back her at half the odds if she can firstly go on to prove herself in Group 1 company and actually beat what I’d call a decent horse and secondly is actually announced an intended Arc runner.

The Derby winner on Guineas form would have been last…

She was 25’s after Sundays race but I’m only interested in next year.

June 13, 2023 at 13:16 #165137712s is indeed very very skinny
She’s not proven at group 1 level and not proven on the likely ground
I’d want 20/1+ to be taking a chance on her
The ground especially would worry me with her action
June 13, 2023 at 15:29 #165139212/1 is bonkers and online firm Nathbet going 6/4 for the 2024 Arc is beyond words.

Another example of a horse being priced up because of the connections rather than solid form.
June 13, 2023 at 16:14 #1651398Hard to muster up form when only running twice
Sumo Sam looks a soft going horse so you can’t read much into her getting closer to Running Lion than she did Al Asifah and Runnning Lion is fav for the Diane with Blue Rose Cen a double group 1 winner a group 2 winner and a group 3 winner behind her in the betting..

June 24, 2023 at 18:48 #1653457Have used the william hill double the odds boost on a friend’s account to have a fiver on hukum at 28/1
Likes soft, stays 1m6f, looks to have improved again
Couldn’t find anything else to use it on so that’ll do me
