Dead heat for 3rd!
As Ouija Board’s biggest fan I am over the moon to have seen Zarkava win that (even though I lost money on S O F), let’s hope she stays clear of any injuries and can provide us with more outstanding performances like that for 2/3 more years.
Edit: I just heard the Aga Khan always retires his horses at 3 years old, on Racing UK they reckon we won’t see her again, anyone heard future plans?
Seems such a shame if so, surely we want to see her try and win the big races over here, and the international races, Breeders Cup Filly & Mare, Hong Kong Vase, Japan Cup etc..

People who think she will fail becaus she’s up against the males you are completley insane or ridiculously stupid. The time she recorded last time out has only been seen by Rail Link and your telling me that its not the quickest horse who gets around the track its the one whos most coltish.. if thats true then be prepared to do your dosh.

October 5, 2008 at 20:22 #183575Quote –
‘No fence sitting – bubble will burst in spectacular fashion – no podium finish for the filly’
Whoever wrote that doesn’t know anything about racing and should be forced to travel to France and follow the filly around for a month with a bucket and brush as penance.
October 5, 2008 at 20:22 #183576Brendan, OK "Is arrogant git" is a touch harsh. He might be, he might not be…..It’s an opinion in the heat of writing a post soon after a belting race and a few beers. You are very defensive. I understand. Are you related?
October 5, 2008 at 20:28 #183578Who was it on here that said AOB wouldnt win another Grp1 in France this season (a few months back this was…)?
They were very much spot on – I think I saw that they put a bet on it too? Well done whoever it was

No I’m not but I have known him since the days when he looked like a 12 year old riding his claim for the Boutin brothers and he is something I like to see in a top athlete and that is, supremely confident. When justified it’s a trait you’ll find most americans (as myself) can appreciate in any walk of life. His accomplishments in the saddle merit it totally. Not unlike another supremely confident artist in the saddle of yesteryear, the great Cash Asmussen.
October 5, 2008 at 20:31 #183580Bookies have given her a quote of 2/1 for next years Arc. Hope she stays in training. Would be great to see her at the Breeders too.
What happend with the Duke though. Disapointing performance. long season catching up with him i guess. Wonder if he will still go to the Breeders?

That was me, thanks. In retrospect you really have to wonder about the state of British and Irish racing when a trainer can rack up 20 grp.1 winners in both those countries only to have his very best horses get beaten out of sight time and again for an entire season in France. This weekend was just a microcosm of that. In the end very profitable for me but not so for a multiude of backers on Betfair.
October 5, 2008 at 20:36 #183584OK Brendan. No probs. We digress….A great race.. that cannot be argued.
October 5, 2008 at 20:46 #183587Hello,
Magnificent Filly..

But not wanting to p*ss on anyone’s chips, her style of running would probably not suit Japan or the Breeders. Everything has to fall right to win in that style. Unfortunately, in Japan "they" would box her in, and if she runs in the UK next year, similar tactics would be employed. Remember Bosra Sham??
She certainly wouldn’t have an easy time coming from behind at Newmarket or Ascot, and today’s rider has not yet convinced me he is up to doing such a tactic in the UK yet.Having said that, it was one of the best performances I have seen for years, and I pray I see her back next year

October 5, 2008 at 20:50 #183588We are privaledged. She had questions to answer and boy did she answer them. She won the Arc exactly the same way and just as easily as she beat the fillies of her own age. She was absolutely awesome yet such is her racing style and the authority of her successes we still don’t know how good she is. However quick something was going today you sense she could always go quicker.
Best filly I’ve ever seen and has to be one of the best horses I’ve ever seen.
I hope they retire her now. Seems a strange thing to say I know but she now has that aura of legend about her and so precious she now is the memories and wonder of her will already last a lifetime. She no longer has anything to prove why risk her?
Today is a day to look back on and say "I saw something really, really special".
October 5, 2008 at 20:51 #183589Box her in ?
They tried to trip her up, whack her, inconvenience her with the coffin box draw, impede her, and box her in …
but she still got the run and duly pulverised them.
She’s the best I’ve seen in a long time.

October 5, 2008 at 20:55 #183590I think we have just seen a very special horse. IMHO she did not get the greatest ride and met plenty of trouble. Makes her performance even better

I would go further and question the quality of trainers in Britain. Its not just this year, Coolmore have been dominant for a while and if its not them its the French if its not them its Godolphin (OK a few years back admittedly).
There are British trainers capable of the odd successes but they’re not really stamping their authority or getting consistant results at the top level. Richard Hannon has done remarkably well but mainly with two year olds, where are the rest? Jim Bolger in Ireland isn’t blessed with huge Arab owners yet at least he’s managing to compete.
October 5, 2008 at 20:59 #183593a wonder filly
she overcame a bad draw a poor start and then bumped and pushed around, still managed go and win easily.
to witness a horse live up to the hype cast upon her, no superlatives can be great enough.
she has set a modern standard that all future stars will be measured by.October 5, 2008 at 21:00 #183594On another note, following that Bolger comment – anyone hear the small rumour that New Approach could run for Godolphin next year
October 5, 2008 at 21:01 #183595Hello,
Himself, yep, just watched replay..she was indeed strong and got herself out of trouble like a real trooper…
I probably have underestimated her resolution…
