Zarkava and SOF for me.
Even though I must acknowledge that I’m trembling with the filly starting from stall 1, and the ground being soft…Best of lucks to everyone.
October 5, 2008 at 01:25 #183401Vision D’Etat, Youmzain and Ask (at his PMU price).
I find it impossible to fancy soldier of fortune, Youmzain beat him in last years arc, should have beat him in the coronation cup but for a badly timed hughes ride, and then he’s beat him in france.
On all known form youmzain is a better horse than Soldier of fortune, and he’s a considerably bigger price. Couple in the fact that, prior to dylan thomas AOBs arc haul sat at zero, and the only horse that has done it for him came out best in a photo with the stronger finishing youmzain.
October 5, 2008 at 02:33 #183412Richard Hills will of course finish off his successful weekend by bringing Youmzain with a perfectly timed run to win by a cosy half length with the favourite filly being bullied out of the places by all those nasty colts.
October 5, 2008 at 12:16 #183434I am rating Vision d’Etat on top here, with the potential to become a seriously good horse next season (if he will be continuing his campaign).
Further explanation can be read in my deep preview – http://www.racenet.com.au and find "World Racing".
October 5, 2008 at 13:19 #183435Heavy overnight rain, Zarkava might not run.

October 5, 2008 at 13:49 #183437Looks like it has chucked it down in France.
Does anyone know where you can get an up-to-date going report for Longchamp, online? ? ? As the RP still has it as GOOD ground which i very much doubt.
October 5, 2008 at 14:07 #183440If Alain de Royer-Dupre says he will assess the ground in the races prior to the Arc, will that mean betting is kept suspended until he signals the go-ahead? Is that possible?
October 5, 2008 at 14:08 #183441Gaz, here’s a quote from the filly’s trainer :
The French handler told BBC Radio Five Live: "It’s terrible weather and they’ve had rain overnight.
"It’s going to be very, very soft.
"It’s a catastrophe for a young filly like that who has such a strong acceleration.
"You have to take the decision (on Zarkava’s participation) – if it’s too much, it’s impossible."
Colin
October 5, 2008 at 14:25 #183446They cannot pull Zarkava out its the Arc for god’s sake. Everyone has been waiting for this. The filly has form on softish ground and she will have the whole winter to recover from this race provided she isn’t retired (as I expect she will be).
No wrapping in cotton wool – let her take her chance.
October 5, 2008 at 14:33 #183448This hasn’t come out of the blue. I remember de Royer-Dupre talking about shying away from running if the ground was too soft.
October 5, 2008 at 14:44 #183450I’ve checked RP and Sporting Life websites and they’ve got updated going conditions for all the meetings – except Longchamp! Can’t access the Paris-Turf site at the moment either.
Just listened to Lysaght on radio 5 and he didn’t know either.
Is it really beyond the capability of racing journalists to actually go and see for themselves or speak to a trainer or jockey who’s done likewise?
October 5, 2008 at 14:57 #183453The going is officially Good To Soft…Zarkava’s trainer has somewhat exagerated things.
October 5, 2008 at 14:59 #183454According to Paris-Turf, it’s good-to-soft, penetrometer reading 3.3.

Thanks Colin.
Looks like it has got very soft in France on the ground.

The trainer is talking a load of crap…they had 1mm of rain overnight and the going is Good To Soft. Pretty irresponsible.
October 5, 2008 at 15:35 #183460Very Soft = good arc ground, you can’t blow up a horse for the arc and then complain when the ground comes up with plenty of cut.
I hope they keep Zarkava in, I don’t want to get rule 4’ed on Vision D’Etat.
Or Youmzain or Ask for that matter.October 5, 2008 at 15:46 #183466Was de Royer-Dupre misinformed, or was this another media beat-up?
I guess you cannot be too surprised that the BBC are talking pure nonsense!
