It has been a disaster year for flat racing in general. Remember the 3 horse farce in King George which is our premier middle distance race?
Then Derby was a shocker too.
And now the weakest Arc in my memory.
On top of that some very average 2 year old horses suggests next year classic crop will not be good either.
Safe to say its a flat racing to forget. Just hope thing gets better during winter, crowds are slowly back by March, prize money increases and we see better season next year.
October 4, 2020 at 10:47 #1504865“On another note does anyone know how it is that O’Brien’s runners were okay for Saturday but not Sunday?”
Samples for Saturday’s runners were tested at a different lab due to time constraints, that may not have had the same sensitivity to levels as the French lab which reported the positives. So yes, the horses that ran on Saturday could still test positive in France.
If the Saturday runners don’t test positive in their post-race samples then it does raise the question of whether they could have run the Sunday horses anyway.
October 4, 2020 at 10:57 #1504869The substance which is in the feed may be Zilpaterol. All will be clear in due course. Perhaps the company which manufactures the horse feed also puts Zilpaterol in cattle feed and there has been some cross contamination in the production process at the plant. Question is how many trainers are affected and would it have come to light in racing in Ireland or in the uk? All conjecture and speculation of course.
October 4, 2020 at 11:05 #1504871Bookies refunding bets on O’Briens horses.
October 4, 2020 at 11:14 #1504873For the integrity of the sport AOB decided not to run his horses on Sunday once he knew the results were positive Saturday evening.
October 4, 2020 at 11:20 #1504876She should win yet her price niggles me , I have to take her on and sottash seems the common sense bet , at a price and despite the question of staying I could deidre running into a place at a monster price , as some else said its poor …it’s wide open , good luck all
October 4, 2020 at 11:42 #1504882I don’t think its necessarily been a bad flat season the better quality 3 year-old fillies I think are very good – Love, Alpine Star, Fancy Blue etc and that Opera today looks a cracker I’m looking forward to that more than the Arc even without Fancy Blue, hopefully a few of them stay in training next season certainly the incentive of no Enable is a pretty big one. Battaash and Stradivarius have been superb but both in divisions where they don’t have another top class rival to take on, Ghaiyyath by contrast has probably been the horse of the season for me in that he’s done it all bar Irish Champions Stakes and he still ran very well there but he’s had good horses to beat. Palace Pier is probably a superstar but sadly we didn’t get the clash with Mohaather.
Agree regarding the 2 year olds, I think there will be big shocks in both Guineas next season. The Derby has been a bit suspect for a couple of years now sadly, Golden Horn for me was the last decent winner.
October 4, 2020 at 11:44 #1504883Agree about the Opera. That us the race of the day.
In the Arc, I still cannot have Enable at the price. In Swoop is my each way play in the race but only a token bet.
October 4, 2020 at 11:48 #1504885So the French are saying, ‘we told you not to use this feed and the related products under the GAIN brand but you didn’t listen.”
Taking the Galop statement on face value.
October 4, 2020 at 11:58 #1504886Decided not to have any more Arc bets so Enable 9-4, and In Swoop 25-1 ew it is.
Good luck all.
October 4, 2020 at 12:00 #1504887Just a shame tarnawa is drawn in the car park in the opera, think shed have taken all the beating from a half decent draw
October 4, 2020 at 12:07 #1504888Whatever happens this afternoon i hope commentators don’t go too much over the top if Enable wins, especially being the first six year old, first to win three etc. Yes she would be the first but how many have seriously tried in the past that had a realistic chance of winning, apart from Treve. Also we are left with nearly half the field aged six and over this afternoon, combined with conditions we’d normally see for the Midlands National (judging by the way they were spread out in the Cadran yesterday) and a Gold Cup winner as second favourite! An Arc is still an Arc but to me a very diluted one this year. Don’t have any firm choices for the race, maybe in swoop or sottsass, but always sit up and take note whenever a certain Mr A Fabre runs anything in the race. Might not see out the trip in this ground but if he thought that may be the case then surely he would have pulled it out for another day; a watching brief for me.
October 4, 2020 at 12:19 #1504892Simple decision for me. No interest whatsoever in Enable a horse who peaked as a 3yo.
What’s Fabre running? Only one horse, group 1 winner, winner on heavy. Unproven over trip but Mr Fabre is the man to trust. 14/1 ew 4 places. That easy.October 4, 2020 at 13:38 #1504901Worzel I agree that it’s a poor field and I don’t think anyone would be going overboard on Enable form wise if she wins today. However it would be a serious testament to her versatility and durability to win today. Sign of a proper champion.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 4, 2020 at 14:39 #1504915Jesus ITV racing analysis the bloody race , there’s more than Enable in it
October 4, 2020 at 14:44 #1504916“This could be one of the best Arc renewals of the lot”. Ed Chamberlain.

BUY THE SUN
October 4, 2020 at 14:53 #1504918Enable seems a very good price to me.
Weaker race than other years. A stayer is at 7s, a horse blown away in the vermeille is 13s. Only Persian King has any right to call himself a genuine group 1 champ. Sotsass will definitely place and should be second fav anyhow
