“You can’t give a 6 time G1 winner like AR a 10L+ headstart and think you are going to get involved at the business end”.
Absolutely right.
Personally I think Inspiral probably has gone. The market vibes were terrible. But Shoemark still has to ride her like she can win. He gave her no chance whatsoever.
June 19, 2024 at 17:05 #1698702Inspiral might do better against her own sex back over 1m.
June 19, 2024 at 17:12 #1698704Maybe…..but then again maybe not if they use the exact same tactics as they did today and at Newbury.
June 19, 2024 at 17:13 #1698705Perhaps – but she looks one to be wary about now. Fillies often reach the point where they have had enough.
June 19, 2024 at 17:14 #1698706He missed the break and made no effort to get close to the pace..
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 19, 2024 at 19:21 #1698754Listen. This boy is the best I have ever trained. He has improved again. All his failures have been down to me.
Listen I may change my mind when COT wins again.
The Lads pointed out that he would be the first Derby winner to win this race since Royal Palace in 1968
June 19, 2024 at 19:40 #1698765Am sure Shoemark didn’t want Inspiral to come out of the stalls quite as slow. Looking at ITV coverage was around 2 or 3 lengths behind the rest of the field. But the intention was the correct one. She was always going to be last out of the stalls… He can not be aggressive either out the gate or by pushing her vigorously to get closer either. Either of those two things would’ve left her too lit up. After a furlong she was only 3/4 length behind the eventual second Zarakam and round the turn only a length behind the eventual third Horizon Dore. But when Shoemark went for her the response was disappointing. When Frankie rode Inspiral in the Breeders Cup he was last out the gate too… Being last early on in a strongly run race is often the best place to be anyway… And looking at the result and distances – the second and third were the two who seemed to improve their form… And they came from second last and third last, just in front of Inspiral.
So in intentionally being slower out of the gate, a jockey hasn’t got much say in how slow the horse comes out. I backed Inspiral but would not blame Shoemark… tbh It did not look a staying matter, she just did not show her form. The fact Gosden thought – from her home work – she wanted the step up in trip – added to the fact she was very weak in the market – suggests she is not showing her asset – speed – at home. Whether that is permanent remains to be seen. In previous seasons the vast majority of Inspriral’s best form has been shown later in the year, so there is at least some chance of rehabilitation. Although that chance is surely smaller after today.
Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2024 at 22:23 #1698791Just watched a recording of the race.
Inspiral looks to have “gone” based on that run
June 19, 2024 at 22:36 #1698793I don’t think you can blame the jockey the horse held a similar position in the race to the eventual second and third. I agree with Ginger she shows better form later in the season and it will be interesting if future plans get her to the US and who will ride her over there.
The more I know the less I understand.
June 19, 2024 at 22:40 #1698794Interesting that is rated arodin best performance. Surely the breeders Cup or irish champion better. Mind you Derby wasn’t too shabby
June 19, 2024 at 23:19 #1698806Iam totally bemused , rewound the tape three or four times to make sure i heard it right , two comments people said AR doesnt do a tap in front ” . Now ive always took this to mean horse chucks it in . Blimey what they watching he stuck his head out and fought real hard , fast ground , fast pace ,stiff finish and he fought off both challengers . That horse has some ticker when in mood , and he was really in mood . Mulitiple group 1 winner in three countries , worldwide traveller , Derby winner x 2 , kept in training ” dont do a tap in front ” FFS thats just BS .
June 19, 2024 at 23:41 #1698808I think what they are trying to say is that when he hits the front he doesn’t go 3-4 lengths clear, but instead he is just doing enough to maintain the lead, and if something comes at him he will find plenty, which is what happened.
Thanks Nathan. It was 7/1, but my only winner of the meeting, and a free bet from my Bet 365 Goals Giveaway. It was a big plus getting the ground and White Birch not running. Full marks to Coolmore for setting the race up as I think he is better over 1m4f.
June 20, 2024 at 00:20 #1698814He puts about 4 lengths on the horse he was in the run with Royal Rhyme maintains to the line off a fast pace , the two French hold up horses come at him off that fast pace and he holds them out , surely no one expects him to draw off 4 or 5 lengths off em .Race was set to suit a swooper , their runs were timed well and he still beat them off , thats gritty imho .
June 20, 2024 at 02:11 #1698818Reminds me of workforce. Beaten in the dante, bolts up in the Derby, posted missing in the king george then wins the arc. Second in the eclipse and King George following year. Just quirky, brilliant horses who had off days. Don’t we all.
June 20, 2024 at 14:34 #1698895” doesnt do a tap in front ”
This doe not mean what you’ve taken it to mean, HCMW.
It can mean they are actually very genuine.
Remember Giants Cauaeway? Never went clear in his races, but wouldn’t let any horse pass either. But it also means the horse’s “rating” will often be less than it would be without this trait. Because the horse will only show form of a pound or two more than the other horses are capable of.
However, it is often given as an excuse connections come out with as a reason it did not beat supposedly inferior horses by further.
