Following a previous thread (ISINGLASS) i turned my attention to establishing the colours worn by previous Cheltenham winners, and I am missing some – predominantly Irish trained ones.
Is there anyone out there who might know the colours carried by:
1985 RSA Chase Antartctic bay owned by "P.Meade"
1972 Gold Cup Glencaraig Lady – "Patrick Doyle"
1985 TRIUMPH First Bout – "Fahad Al Athel" (NOT IRISH)
1986 TRIUMP Solar Cloud – "Ann McEwen" (NOT IRISH)
1984 ARKLE Bobsline – "R H Kelsey"
1985 ARKLE Boreen Prince – "William Lenehan"
1961 ARKLE Mountcashel King – John Glyn
1958 ARKLE Fortria – A Craigie
1964 ARKLE Greektown – Lionel EnstenFor those who didnt see the previous forum, I am still missing the following flat colours too:
1961 ARC Molvedo – Egidio Verga
1957 ARC Oroso – Raoul Meyer
1954 ARC Sica Boy – Mrs Jean Cochery1962 ASCOT GOLD CUP – Balto – Andre Ruff
1983 STEWARDS CUP Autumn Sunset – dont know who owned it!!!!
1981 STEWARDS CUP – Crews Hill – Mr C. Varney
1980 STEWARDS CUP – Repetitious – Mrs A.M. Trimble
1954 STEWARDS CUP – Ashurst Wonder – Mr R. MerrickMarch 11, 2010 at 19:13 #281758I just happen to have two full colour pictures of Crews Hill from the ’81 Stewards Cup in an Ed Byrne album. The colours are green body, white sleeves, green cap. And according to my Directory of the Turf, the owner was Mr C Henry, not Varney.
Autumn Sunset was owned by J A McCaughey in the ’83 Stewards Cup. His colours were yellow, black diamond and sleeves, quartered cap.
The colours registered for Mrs Ann McEwen were white, royal blue crossbelts, royal blue and yellow quartered cap.

March 11, 2010 at 19:21 #281759I believe First Bout’s colours were "Drab, Emerald Green Sash". Not sure about the cap.
March 11, 2010 at 20:17 #281775thanks AP and rory for your swift responses – I got most of the Stewards Cup owners from a foregin website, so its entirely feasible that some may have been wrong – so thank you. Mr MaCaughey of course owned Connaught Ranger who won the Triumph in 1978 – so quite a double – I just didnt know he owned Autumn Sunset – many thanks to you both.
March 11, 2010 at 20:36 #281780One part of that query doesn’t really make sense, as you’re looking for details on winners of the Arkle Chase before it existed.
Which race did Fortria and Greektown actually win – the Broadway Chase or something else?
AP
March 11, 2010 at 20:46 #281781Glencaraig Lady was red with blue striped sleeves and possibly a quartered cap. Bobsline was in blue, white hoops on sleeves and i think a hooped cap.

The Broadway is now the RSA and was won by Arkle inits former title. The Arkle may have been called the Cotswold Chase
March 11, 2010 at 21:03 #281785you’re quite right , of course AP, I should have been more specific – I believe the 2 mile Novice Chase was the Cotswold Chase from 1946 – 1968, and that is what the earlier names won.

Unfortunately, it is just a photo of the horse’s head!
March 12, 2010 at 14:38 #281910I think Solar Cloud’s colours were also pretty drab. I’m only going on memory, but I’d say it’s something like grey, dark blue crossbelts, quartered cap.
March 13, 2010 at 15:22 #282104Thinking about it Boreen Prince ran in the Gold Cup a couple of days after winning the Arkle. He was still in the mix two out and good luck to you if you can make out the colours from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJECEzeK … re=related
Mostly red, possibly some blue and an orange cap?
