Welcome Mr Braddick
a bold move in here with
a strong anglo saxon name.I agree to some extent with everyone.
I will however say something of the jockey / jokey
presenter William Carson.Mr Soute, Mr Cecil, Mr Cumani
in Carson’s day.
and there was no great room for individuality.
Clare may have won the war of words
but Willie, with an inappropriate kiss,
won the race.August 27, 2008 at 23:40 #178396I met Simon Holt at Plumpton in October and is a nice chap and a better commentator than Jim McGrath. Wish the BBC would use Ian Bartlett a lot more and replace Ray Cochrane with Kevin Darley on a permanent basis.
Channel 4 is better than BBC for my money and what is wrong with Mike Cattermole? Nothing in my view. Good at the job and always stops and talks.
John Francome tops the presenter table for me with Clare Balding close behind and nowt wrong with Ms Plunkett either though not so keen on Mrs Spencer. Incidentally Ms Plunkett (Mrs Fox-Pitt) does a good course drive with Captain Mark Phillips on the Burghley Horse Trials website. She has a very good indepth knowledge of horses.
August 28, 2008 at 16:50 #178455Hi bobbell:
I used to live in Enfield on The Ridgeway!
Can’t say things like The Burghley Horse Trials do a lot for me. Don’t have much time for minor (or major) royals and way too many double barrelled names and Pimms for my liking.
Off to find my flat cap and whippet.
Cheers,
Craig

August 28, 2008 at 18:04 #178462A doth of the cap from Mr Gamble..
Carson’s knowledge of horse lineage is unmatched on television and whilst he can be slightly irritating at times (Due to his apparent lack of professionalism) he’s also entertaining and his gaffs are often funny (Which makes me wonder how much of it is an act – He’s clearly not stupid).
Francome I like a lot, moreso when it comes to national hunt and Nick Luck is an astute presenter. Lady Balding is very good as well.
I don’t really have a favourite commentator. They’re all pretty good to be honest.
August 28, 2008 at 20:01 #178475Derek Thompson’s race-reading is sometimes brilliant to the point of being almost supernatural(!) – the speed he goes through the field. He’s really enjoying himself, which seems incredible.
I mean fields of more than six or seven runners. Much more. And there’s another very good race-reader, though I didn’t hear his name.

his tipping ine is rather on the slow sideAugust 28, 2008 at 21:49 #178487My heart sinks where I read of someone praising Derek Thompson for his work in racing.
August 29, 2008 at 19:38 #178581Sounds like my reaction when I hear some loony far-right hack spouting about Thatcher’s epic stature, or how brilliantly NuLab have steered the country to the most brilliant economic success.
They’ve started, however – even in the Daily Mail – to admit the social effects of her policies have been disastrous. Well.. they put it in slightly less absolute terms. And of course, before long, nobody will dare mention her name save in obloquy.
Sorry about the digression, but my heart goes put to anyone who, however deludedly, Wallace, says their heart sinks. Just reading the daily headlines is like a heart-sinking marathon. What have you got against him. I knows he’s not the most sensitive, but you extraverts too.
