01253 73 Mustangsallyrally(113) (TMullins) – 8,06I recall reading somewhere that Jim Dreaper’s intention is to run Notre Pere off top weight here after keeping him at home for Cheltenham and Liverpool. Potentially then, there are going to be several highly talented horses running with light weights on their backs. The horse I’ve had my eye on for this race for a long time now is Arbor Supreme who I think is going to relish this marathon trip. His run under a welter burden in the Thyestes gives me great encouragement that he’ll see out this trip. He was beaten last time out by One Cool Cookie though and he reopposes on 3lbs better terms so he’s another that will have to enter my equations. He needs to right handed and his record at Fairyhouse is good having won the Powers Gold Cup as a novice so he’ll have a leading chance if Charlie Swan lets him take his chance.
Casey Jones took the eye at Cheltenham when flying up the hill in the Sun Alliance and there’s every reason to believe that he’ll improve for the trip here. This horse needs quicker ground and novices have a good record in this race so he’s another for my shortlist.
The four miler at Cheltenham tends to be a useful guide to this race so you’d imagine that Drumconvis who ran very well there will not go unsupported. The yard also have last years’ runner up in Royal County Star who won a decent grade 3 contest on Saturday but he didn’t seem to get home in last years’ contest.
English raiders have a very good record in the Irish National and Character Building is interesting coming off the back of his success in the Kim Muir. There would have to be concerns over whether he’ll run though after being taken out of the Aintree National. I would have great respect for whatever Jonjo runs and this trip would look to be made for Wichita Lineman IMO.
Long term selections:
Arbor Supreme
One Cool Cookie
Casey JonesApril 5, 2009 at 19:33 #10864I don’t know whether he’ll run, but I’ve just taken all the 48 about Ungaro. I think Fairyhouse will suit a lot better than Kempton. Maybe I should send an email to Sir Robert Ogden’s Racing Manager, telling him to put cheekpieces on the beast?
I’ll have a proper look at the race once the 5 day deccies are out.
April 5, 2009 at 20:02 #220499I think he’s had too many chances already Gerard; He runs a promising race then flops every time. Much prefer Charachter Building’s chances if John Quinn confirms he will run but chnaces are he may go for the Scottish National instead
April 5, 2009 at 20:28 #220506The conections SAY Ungaro prefers Kempton, even though his best runs are at Doncaster. He loses ground at Doncaster by jumping to the right. I think the horse wants a right-handed, galloping track. I also think he is intimidated by other horses, which is why he often runs wide, or at the back. That is why I am suggesting cheekpieces.
It is a bit difficult to do ante-post bets at the moment, because we’re not sure whether horses are running in the Irish National, Scottish National or Bet365. I’ve got an itchy trigger finger at the moment, so I’ve just had a bet on Alderburn for the Bet365, just because he is being targetted at it. I’m also taking a gamble that Proportional will actually come over for the 1000 Guineas, and I’ve had a place bet, to add to the win bet I had a few weeks ago. Also done Arazan and Art Connoisseur to be placed in the 2000 Guineas.
April 5, 2009 at 21:02 #220511After the thyestes I earmarked Emma Jane for this, however she has notched up a win since then I noticed so will check out again, but may need to review.
April 8, 2009 at 14:06 #10892any tips for this? whose running?
April 8, 2009 at 14:15 #220875Not a "tip" a such, but I’ve backed Dear Villez at 18/1. I’m not entirely convinced he will get home, but I think he could be well handicapped.
I’ve also had a small bet on Ambobo, because I couldn’t help myself.

Anyone know what the ground is likely to be?
April 8, 2009 at 15:14 #220886All of the advance entries are here in my thread on the race:
http://www.theracingforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76751
It must have got lost with all this talk of bucket and sand racing at Wolverhampton.

Presumably a lot of these horses will be taken out this afternoon.
April 8, 2009 at 15:15 #220887I’d be interested in the likely ground forecast as well.
At the moment I like two home trained novices. If it turns up soft I’d be interested in Rare Bob but in any event the run of Casey Jones in the RSA left an impression. He didn’t seem to have been given too hard a time of it coming down the hill but was absolutely flying up the hill.
I have slight doubts about Rare Bob seeing out the trip but none about Casey Jones.
Both currently available at c. 16/1 so may back both.

112/- 47 Wichita Lineman (JO’Neill (in GB)) -. (150)47 left in at the 5 day stage. Plenty of showers around over the last two or three days. Today is much drier so far though. If this current weather continues I’d say we’ll be looking at Yielding or Good to Yielding ground come Monday.
April 8, 2009 at 18:56 #220922What is the thoughts on the possible going ? Casey Jones looks to have a great chance if the going is not softish.
April 8, 2009 at 19:22 #220929Already had a kick in the teeth from Ungaro withdrawing.
At the moment still scratching around for big-priced horses to back. Have just done A New Story, on the back of his 3rd in the Cork Grand National in November.
Anyone who read the long-term GN thread won’t be surprised I’m already on Church Island.
April 8, 2009 at 19:25 #220931Anyone know whether Air Force One is an intended runner? I’ve already shot-out with Dear Villez, who apparently goes for the Scottish Nash.
April 8, 2009 at 19:59 #220936As stated on the other thread Emma Jane is the one for me, the way she was staying on through the field at the end of the thyestes chase (having been held too far back and initially out sped when the tempo was raised), instantly marked her out to me as being one for this race and think she still has improvement on her rating.
If Air Force One and Nore Pere pull out, she will rise in the weights but IMO still has a cracking chance.
Worth checking out the thyestes chase on ATR website if you havent seen it already.
April 8, 2009 at 23:44 #220957A race like this isnt beyond Wichita Lineman and the 18 available on BF is massive for a horse who finds ridiculous amounts off the bridle and has a never say die attitude.
Only beaten once over fences (by Lodge Lane when he had a good day) and this distance definitely isnt beyond Wichita.
April 9, 2009 at 01:08 #220969Trappy looking on first inspection. Unlikely to play until the day, but would be thinking about Rare Bob and Drumconvis at this stage. Emma Jane is a big player but for some reason Willie Mullins’ record in this is uninspiring.
April 9, 2009 at 06:55 #220991Just had my first bet for the 2010 Grand National on Drumconvis. Consequently, have then had a saver for this.
Have decided that if I am going to play big in the Irish GN, Scottish GN and Bet 365, I ought to do a full-blown trend analysis, like I did for the GN. I’ll spend Good Friday on it, instead of looking at 2yos. Also, I’ll take it back to Dessie, just to increase the chances of topweights, British horses and greys winning it.
