The only horses I can think of to win both the Triumph and Champion are Persian War and Kribensis, though I’m sure there is another. The Triumph can bottom young horses out and tends to be won by horses that are Stayers in the making.

Perhaps they’ll run him over his best distance this year. He can put black jack in his place then.
September 7, 2007 at 08:10 #113842Detroit City, whether he was right or wrong, he would not have won the CH last season. He does not posses the cruising speed or the ability to gain lengths at his hurdles. How he went off as 6/4 favourite for the Champion Hurdle I’ll never know. I think Katchit was such a better winner of the Triumph Hurdle, yet some people think the 7/1 price is ridiculous! I know he will not start at 7/1 on the day, well thats my view!

When it was an end to end headless chicken race. So very different now and logically it should be the perfect trial for a future CH winner

It certainly was not after timing on my part, I was strongly against DC before the Champion Hurdle last year. And I don’t think you can say he put Straw Bear in his place, if a 1 3/4 L beating amounts to that. And I certainly would not be in the Straw Bear camp regarding this year’s CH.
