Will this be a rollover for Strong Suit or will Zoffany beat him.For i can’t see SS getting beaten
August 8, 2010 at 14:40 #311714There’s something in my head which is telling me Zoffany wasn’t right at Ascot. Strong Suit will obviously be hard to beat though.
August 8, 2010 at 15:55 #311723Nothing has been right with the Ballydoyle horses this year.
August 8, 2010 at 15:55 #311724Zoffany won with Glor Na Mara 2nd and SS 3rd
Why did Hughes have him up there to soon should of behind the horses instead.Oh well at Strong Suit is a better ante post price now
August 8, 2010 at 16:03 #311726After the rock and holy roman emperor were both well beaten in the coventry,it wasnt a surprise that zoffany came out and won here.He looks a horse of real class and should have no problem training on next yr.What was most impressive was that he was stepping back in trip and showed a great turn of foot to win

Nothing?! 6 Group 1’s is it, I could be wrong.
August 8, 2010 at 16:37 #311733That was impressive win no matter what way you look at it.

I don’t back horses this early for next year but i’ll agree with you on not backing the O’Brien horse for the Guineas, he uses the guineas as a prep race.
August 8, 2010 at 17:05 #311737Take out auld FnG and what have you got?

Considering Aidan O’Brien has won three of the last six runnings of the 2000 Guineas, I don’t think your observation stands up.

August 8, 2010 at 18:11 #311746He uses it as a prep if they aren’t ready or slow to hand.
I can’t think that he purposely doesn’t run his horses fit for the first classic of the year.
However its clear that the Classics aren’t as important as all aged races these days.

"The Ante-Post Prince" is bang on there! Well spotted thm,he was as Green as i said he was on the Coventry thread! Very few can see untapped potential in a horse,Johnny Francome is a master!

If RVW and Mastercraftsman had a prep run before last years Guineas they wouldn’t have finished behind Delegator and Gan Amhras (and possibly one or both could’ve beat STS that day over a mile).
He simply used it as a prep race and he did that this year too.
I’m not saying any of his horses (next year) won’t be good enough to win it first time out. But I ain’t taking that risk seeing how much they’ve needed the run in the last couple of years.
I’m not hating on Aiden, I don’t bet ante-post anyway.
I’ve seen countless people lose money on Fantasia, Westphalia, Rainbow View, Crowded House, St Nicholas Abbey by backing horses before they’ve even grown up.
August 8, 2010 at 19:04 #311751Bigphil i hear you….antepost betting has no interest to me and i wouldnt back Zoffany if it had one by 10l today.
August 8, 2010 at 19:42 #311756Phil,
I think it may be horse dependent in fairness, some horses come quicker to hand then others, SNA IMO was plenty forward for this years Guineas, he just wasn’t good enough.

August 8, 2010 at 19:47 #311757Take it from someone who backed SNA for derby at 25/1 last August. He was never a guineas horse always a derby horse and if Steinbeck was not injured SNA would not of been in this race.
Still see Strong Suit bouncing back not checked this up but have the last 4 winners of the coventry came 3rd in there next race then the following year win a group 1 race
August 8, 2010 at 19:59 #311763The Coventry form has proven to be all all wrong.
I be surprised if he is in the same league as CC.
