trackside528 , can you post what was said??
November 12, 2006 at 23:49 #30625I don’t. Or I wouldn’t have written it.
I like Gordon Brown, and although I don’t know Dougie Fraser. I think he’s fine. Is he the only Scot commentating?
It was a joke. Not a criticism. I thought it was only jackane18 who took everything literally.
November 12, 2006 at 23:55 #30626Didn’t read said article but…
Paul, is your ‘Greatest Racecourses’ book worth £99? I’m considering buying it, but it’s a bit steep (well, pretty much vertical). I could blag entry to most of them for that!
I hope your signature dosen’t cost £98….
November 13, 2006 at 00:01 #30627I wouldn’t pay £99 for it, Tone. But then I’m skint after Deep Impact:(
The pictures are very nice and the, er, production values are high. Not sure about the writing.
Don’t know about the autograph. Definitely free, but why would anyone want one?
November 13, 2006 at 09:02 #30628Thanks, trackside. You’re not going to catch me, mate. I know that question wasn’t meant to be taken literally:biggrin:
November 13, 2006 at 14:22 #30629£99 is indeed very steep. :o :o :o
But Santa (aka the g/f) has been struggling for an Xmas present for me this year and has been duly tipped off. ;)
November 13, 2006 at 14:27 #30630Speaking of these books, has anyone read the one which is the complete history of the Derby. I think it has been released before but this has been revised and updated. Seriously thinking of going down the Prufrock route and tipping Santa off so was hoping for some feedback.

Yeah but my santa works on kickbacks and this kind of price could be setting a dangerous precedent.
November 13, 2006 at 17:50 #30632How about Paul knocking copies off at, say, £75 for members of TRF and their Santas…?
He’d be the only one on the Racetech roster. One Bill Harvie, who sounded extremely Scottish, did some of the commentary at Perth’s September meeting when Iain MacKenzie got stuck in traffic, but that’d be the only appearance in the box of any Rules course by him that I know of.

November 14, 2006 at 20:24 #30636Oh. Well, sorry if I gave offence to Dougie then. As I say I think he’s fine. Unlike…no shut your mouth Z.
Prufrock (and wit) I’ve just seen the first copies today, and have to say I am not ashamed.
Also, wit, I’ve been signing away like a good ‘un. What I meant was: why should anyone want my autograph? Or anyone’s for that matter? Except on a non-latex cheque.
Discounts??? At this stage??? Dear me.
How many copies do you think they’re going to give me? Not many considering what it cost to produce.:(
November 14, 2006 at 21:14 #30637hi Z
surely you and your publisher want your autograph in as many as possible ?
years ago i remember a story about ted heath discovering that any book signed by the author could not be returned for credit by the retailer.
apparently ted then started roaming the country, startling not a few booksellers by inviting himself in for impromptu signing sessions……
best regards

Ashley Cole would pay a princely sum for that information! Only 3,000 copies sold I believe.
November 15, 2006 at 11:30 #30639But it’s not going to any retailers. Not in this country anyway.
November 15, 2006 at 11:44 #30640hmm ……. i wonder then why high stakes seem to be offering it for £27.50 ? (bottom left)
