I have noticed in the 2.15 at Clonmel there was a horse withdrawn due to a Passport Irregularity. I have noticed this before but very rarely. What does this mean? I always think that the trainer is trying to run a ringer and has been caught out. Surely this can’t be the case as he would get a fairly hefty fine and ban
February 20, 2015 at 14:19 #751556I thought about the ringing but like you said if it were the case it would be all over the news. Perhaps the passport was out of date or it might fail if the photo isn’t straight or the horse is smiling.
As it says in the instructions
we want this –

not this –

February 21, 2015 at 10:38 #751668Tecala incident produced a fine of Euro 350 and the horse being suspended for 2 days:
http://www.turfclub.ie/web/index.php?op … Itemid=177
working backwards from that outcome through the Rules:
– Rule 90 et seq regarding Passports/ Vaccinations make quite a few mentions of Euro 350 in terms of fines, but no reference to 2 day suspensions.
– all the references in the Rules to the term "2 day" suspension show up in Rule 194 (Declaration), including 194 (vii) (e):
=========
Other Reasons for Non Running(e) Where a horse is withdrawn for any reason other than those previously stated in this Rule a fine of not less than €200 shall be imposed on the trainer and the horse shall not be permitted to run in any other race for 2 days, commencing on the day following the race meeting. The reason ‘’ran yesterday’’ or ‘’runs tomorrow’’ shall not be regarded as a valid excuse
=========
so might the reported passport reason also in some way have been an "other reason for non running", bringing in the 2 days ?
February 21, 2015 at 16:09 #751762Wrong horses do turn up in the modern era. Charlie Mann, for one, has got up the trifecta! The moderate Trump Card was mixed-up with a horse some poor soul was relying on for the scoop6 bonus. Trump Card died in the race.

Then there’s our old friend Alan Berry, who mistook a 2yo colt for an older filly.

Both trainers still have their licenses.
