Did, or could, someone else watch this race and tell me what they think of the rider’s use of the whip just after the fourth last?

It looked awful to me, and looked no better on further viewing. Unacceptable IMO.

Missed it first time as I was too busy watching the abismal performances of Shemshal and One Goal. Is it the windmill action you are objecting to? It doesn’t look great but it appears he only hit the horse once at that stage but obviously he more than made up for that on the run in. Not sure why he got the ride as I would have though Alan Crowe would have got first call?

Yes, it was the impression that one stroke left me with. I’m not sure though how the result of that style could be anything other than a complete over the shoulder thrash/slash at the horse. Agreed, he held nothing back in the finish either. Presumably he was used to take advantage of his claim?

I just hope that for his sake, not to mention future mounts, that someone takes him to one side and has a word cos otherwise he’ll not learn.

Would like to see the head on but I think there was a lot of arm waving (re, a less stylish Ruby Walsh), and not sure how many or how few times he hit the horse.

The jockey himself I believe is someone to watch out for, Jody McGarvey, and is well worth his claim.

The horse Park Ranger is a bit in and out and suspect is a bit moody and frequently under achieves.

Jody Mc Garvey is a real up and coming star in Ireland this season, keep an eye out for this boy although watching the replay he’d never go a race in England without getting a ban so will have to modify his whip action if he plans going over there when he rides out his claim.
