Didn’t Fred Done, a big Man Utd fan, once pay out on Man Utd mid-season only to see them pipped for the title in the final game?
Yes, 97/98, Arsenal came back from 10 or more points down.
January 20, 2009 at 14:06 #205293I think if you’d backed him at 6/4 and have been paid out, no harm in trying to go for the ultimate satisfaction of now laying him on betfair. Whilst it has to be hoped that the horse turns up safe and well at Cheltenham, there is always the possibility in this fragile game of that not happening.
I think that’s what I’d be doing…
If only they’d done this on Saturday just before the off in Snap Tie’s race! But then again, they probably looked at the official going as opposed the Racing Post’s version of the ground! Grrr…

The Racing Post don’t have their own version of the going; they used the most up to date report supplied by the racecourse, which was massively misleading, as it tends to be from that track.

With PN’s record of keeping them right I would be keeping the cash.
Would that be like betting at 1/50 anyway and with very very little chance of success.
Incidentally you may find any bookie is willing to settle early at a price. Hills have approached me in the past.
As a matter of interest, as I have an axe to grind here, what price would any of you guys consider to be fair if your bookie wanted to settle now?
January 20, 2009 at 15:37 #205310"With PN’s record of keeping them right……………….."
How does that statement tie in with your remarks about his handling of Kauto Star in the lead-up to last year’s Gold Cup, Fists?
Colin
January 20, 2009 at 16:09 #205313Colin,
You’re off the mark there. His mistake was running him after the GC and Nicholls record of keeping horses sound and on the go is pretty good in comparison to the likes of Pipe in years gone by.
January 20, 2009 at 16:41 #205316Didn’t Fists suggest that the horse incurred an injury at Ascot and hadn’t recovered when running in the Gold Cup?

This place is becoming a joke
Now it’s Colin waiting in the wings to pounce
Nice to see you are still around even if you have nothing constructive to sayPerhaps I should say his record of getting them there in one piece like Two Gold Cups for Kauto Star and 3 King George chases. or running the first three inthe Gold Cuplast season.
As Michael Dickinson once said it’s hard enough getting them there in one piece let alone winning with them.
But then I think you know exactly what I meant.
Incidentally I didn’t say anything about PN before the Gold Cup I was too busy saying he was a certainty to beat Denman
January 20, 2009 at 16:53 #205320Didn’t Fists suggest that the horse incurred an injury at Ascot and hadn’t recovered when running in the Gold Cup?
Colin
I think I said that was a possible answer to why he ran so badly. I said if he was feeling a bit of pain at Ascot it could have affected his confidence. Things like that which can affect a horse’s confidence don’t show up.and they can’.t talk. Hardly PN’s fault if it was the case
It was also well after the Gold Cup not before.
Anyway what on earth has that got to do with the man’s ability to get a horse to the race course?
January 20, 2009 at 17:13 #205323…………………perhaps not, but that was your excuse for his defeat.
Fists, I’m sorry if you think it is unfair of people to point out contradictions in your posts, but if you are going to make bold statements about how good and successful are punter you are this is what you can expect.
In my experience the successful punters are the ones that keep it to themselves.
Not wishing to embarrass apracing but I have no recollection of him ever boasting about what price he has backed a horse at.
As to me having nothing constructive to say, you may well be right but that would only be your opinion.
I have been a member on this forum from a time it when it was supported by Channel 4 and during that time I have probably made comments on most things racing. I am not one to repeat myself, unlike some, and I am not a believer in that if you say something often enough it becomes the truth (see Margaret Hilda Thatcher).
If you want to read more about MY thoughts on racing (can’t believe you do) I could point you in the direction of a certain monthly racing magazine.
This probably comes over as a rather pompous and precious post but you have been criticising the brevity of my posts for some time and I felt that it wasn’t right for another "fact" being established through constant repetition

January 20, 2009 at 18:05 #205338Oh come on Colin give me a breakmate I have never mentioned a sum of money on here and my successful punts were all documneted.
What do you want from me? should I not say when I fancy a horse or am having a large bet. I love digging them out and slamming the bookies and I wish everyone had backed Zarkava, had Binocular and Kauto at a huge prices and had taken the 6/4 about MM when it was available. If my success causes animosity, well blow me mate nothing I can do about it
You should know as well as me if you say you backed a horse after the fact hear you are jumped upon from a great height.
Anyway forget that shyte I am more interested in this magazine you write in you foxy old devil

Is it on line? I really would love to read it. Read a Jeremy Grayson blog today by mistake which I found very interesting.
I really envy you, having the ability to write for someone so please go a head.

Cracking post, this
January 20, 2009 at 18:40 #205352The magazine isn’t on-line, Fists,it will cost you £2.75 a month.
You can order a subscription on-line though, which is quite a bit cheaper, although you may have to pay a bit extra to have it delivered to Thailand.
I will PM you with the name of the mag., can’t have spamming on here can we.

January 20, 2009 at 22:17 #205410Let’s face it – barring a fall, Master Minded is a certainty.
…so long as he makes it to the 2m start at Cheltenham on the day in question in the first place! With the best will in the world, and the best care available to horses, there is still no element of certainty that they will remain healthy and sound.
January 21, 2009 at 00:16 #205436Thanks Colin

I think Barring a fall sort of says he would have to be at the course already
Of course he could be talking about fallling off the end of a cliff if he escapes from his box and gallops all the way to Dover
Thing is you are perfectly correct, he could step out his box at the course and stand on a stone, drop his jockey and bolt or a million other things.
As far as I can make out H is also correct, if he jumps as he can he wins
at a likely SP of 1/5 it would take a brave man to argue. - AuthorPosts
