Not related, but hoping someone can answer my question:
If you back a horse each way NRNB now, and there are more than 8 runners at the moment, do you lose your third place each way if less than 8 line up
March 9, 2012 at 22:59 #395625I do not know but if you struck the bet in shop you (or the person that serves you) should write the each way terms on the slip. I think when you place a bet online the each way terms are stated so you just need to view your betting slip by accessing your outstanding bets. If it was a phone bet I have no idea.

March 10, 2012 at 20:54 #395752Tommy,If you have a NRNB,e/w single,1/4 odds a place now and there are more than 8 runners and you take 10/1 for example…………then on the day there are only 6 runners, not only do you lose out on the 3rd place you end up losing the 10/1 too,you get paid out at the price offered on the morning of the race! Thats with our friends Ladbrokes anyway!
Another scenario I fell for was backingSynchronised
NRNB with them at 12/1 after his last victory in Ireland,I asked 4 different ‘On Line’ reps of theirs the same question and got a different answer from all 4.The question was,’If ‘Synchronised’ turns up for the Gold Cup and their are only 4 runners and both ‘Long Run’ and ‘Kauto Star’ dont line up and JP’s horse is 2/1 fav will I get paid out at 12/1,3 of them said YES, so I backed him,the last person categorically stated No and I would get my place bet paid at Win only! Of course the selling point of this bet is you will get your money back should he not run!
March 10, 2012 at 22:30 #395764It seems there’s more than one way to skin a cat from a bookies perspective. That really takes away from the attraction of a NRNB bet. Looking like Sir Des Champs might be Jewson bound though Gord, on the plus side.
March 10, 2012 at 22:51 #395765This years ‘Musical Chairs’ is the worse I have ever seen,
Medermit
attempting a trip 5f further than he’s ever travelled before was the biggest joke! 25/1 to win the King George over 3m appeals though! I have been reading my ‘Betfair’ Cheltenham preview,it came in a ‘Donald McCain’ envelope,I had to laugh at his piece on the Arkle,..’The Arkle has been the plan for him all season’
! Yes and some would have invested on those words all season too!

Tommy,I hopeSir des Champs
does stick to the ‘Jewson’he’s a better jumper than ‘Peddlers Cross’ and on paper my Ante-Post selections would look well for at least a place.Having said that I notice this evening that
Get me out of Here
has been well backed for the…………County hurdle!
March 10, 2012 at 23:01 #395766I’m not just worried that my Sir Des Champs Jewson bet will go down the drain, but if he runs in the RSA he’ll be the one First Lieutenant has to beat, would be a real left hook right hook one two!
All systems go for Gold Cup 2013 mind

Corals man at the Cheltenham Preview at Newbury advised punters to bet now (wednesday) for 3 places, as there probably won’t be 8 runners (3 places) come day of race.
With your Synchronised scenario bet Gord, I would think what you’d get would be "12/1" but with massive R4 reductions.
Value Is EverythingMarch 11, 2012 at 18:39 #395895I think the spirit of NRNB is that it is ante post with a concession for non-runners. I think this is the norm and it usually spelled out as "NRNB no rule 4." So if only 5 horses go to post then you should get 3 places for the each way as you would with normal ante post if there were 8 or more runners when you placed the bet.
Confusion arises with NRNB with "rule 4 may apply" as this is effectively the same as day of race betting if rule 4 is applied. In this case I think you wouldn’t get the ante post each way terms.
However, I can see that certain bookmakers might interpret it differently on place terms. Arguably "NRNB no rule 4" still allows them to apply place term penalties if the field shrinks. But I think this would be a very mean trick, especially as 1/4 odds first 3 is not the normal 1/5 odds so not covered directly by Tatts rules on each way and therefore would need to be clarified at the time of the bet if terms were possibly going to be altered later on.
