Police say they think a body found in the River Derwent is that of trainer Owen Brennan who has been missing since mid December. Sad news indeed. http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/BREAK … story.html
January 10, 2013 at 00:02 #425822I used to enjoy following and seeing Owen Brennan’s horses, particularly in his heyday when he and his son, Martin, made a formidable combination at courses like Southwell, Market Rasen and Doncaster.
I gather from reading about his disappearance that his favourite course was Uttoxeter.
He was a very talented and under-rated trainer. Great shame that there has, it would seem, been a tragic closing chapter to his story.
January 10, 2013 at 00:48 #425834A very good trainer with, on the whole, moderate horses.
Regularly popped in the winners with horses such as Vulrory’s Clown, Indian, Invasion and Strath Royal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuF0LmqyhXc (Probably his biggest win as a trainer).
Strath Royal was a particular favourite in 2m Handicap Hurdles around Towcester. Martin Brennan used to fire him over the third last at the bottom of the hill and sprint away up the hill under 12 stone.
I remember the Brennan’s doing the double double at Towcester in 1994 with consecutive wins by Invasion and Strath Royal on April 2nd and then again with the same horses on May 27th.
Will be sadly missed.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
