From the BHA website
On a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Denis O’Regan, the rider of Arcalis, placed second, had weighed in 3 lbs heavier than he had weighed out, the Stewards interviewed O’Regan, in the presence of J. Howard Johnson, the trainer, and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found O’Regan to be in breach of Rule (B)67.7, and suspended him for 3 days as follows:- Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th and Monday 5th April.
What i would like to know is what EVIDENCE was given by O’Regan and Johnson and why we the betting public can be allowed to hear it.
March 27, 2010 at 00:01 #285830I know the weight was more. But do think he should’ve been disqualified, to discourage possible wrongdoing.
How could they commit wrong doing? Would have thought skullduggery would be much more likely if they were disqualified.
The thing that stewards have to be warey of (and I am not saying it happened here):
It is possible (though extremely unlikely) for someone to take the weight (or some of the weight) out of the saddle cloth between weighing out and the race starting. Then someone else puts back the weights after the horse has finished. But it is possible this second person puts too much weight back in to the saddlecloth. Hence weighing in heavy.
Value Is EverythingMarch 27, 2010 at 10:34 #285892So Denis has weighed out at 10-4,has he ridden the race at 10-4? or has he ridden the race at 10-7? If he has ridden at 10-7,then nobody can blame "Skulduggerry"!From connections anyway! Obviously if he"d come in 3lbs lighter, the S**t would hit the fan! Hindsight shows that he would have finished a good 2nd if he has ridden 3lb overweight, instead of just getting up for 2nd place, the winner won comfortably! The public should certainly know the full detailed explanations given though, as it all could be just an innocent mistake! And thats coming from someone who backed him at 50"s!
March 28, 2010 at 18:38 #286132I also backed him at 50s like you TAPK and i would just like to know what the explanation was.
I have no doubt it was probably an innocent mistake, however if we are not/never told then people think and quite rightly, that something dodgy has taken place.
April 13, 2010 at 20:02 #290137Only up 2lbs for his County Hurdle run, put in at 138 for the Scottish Champion Hurdle. So effectively down 1lb
