I cannot wait for this horse to come over to the UK. So unlucky last year at the Arc meeting!
April 19, 2009 at 22:02 #222639wow…and Takeover Target is still winning as well….
April 19, 2009 at 22:11 #222642Is he unbeaten? If so, how many races?
April 19, 2009 at 22:27 #222645I’m pretty sure he is unbeaten, I think its 13-0
April 19, 2009 at 22:37 #222646Here’s the report from the Post:
Report: Hungary, Sunday
Kincsem Park, BudapestHUNGARIAN sprinting sensation Overdose started 2009 where he left off 2008 when the ‘Budapest Bullet’ blitzed his rivals with an eight-length victory on his seasonal debut at home at Kincsem Park on Sunday.
Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, who has committed to ride him all season, the four-year-old son of Starborough received a standing ovation as he took his unbeaten record to 12 with a comfortable success inthe OTP Hungarian Nagydij (Hungarian Grand Prix).
Soumillon sent Overdose to the front after two furlongs and he was soon in complete command against overmatched rivals in the 7m forint (£21,000 event) – a smallfortune by the standards of Hungarian racing.
Amid jubilant scenes among a crowd of about 20,000 – the highest for 36 years – Overdose won easily from Spinning Crystal, to whom he was conceding 13lb.
Connections were relieved to get Overdose’s first race of the year out of the way and he will now travel to Britain, where his first objective is the Temple Stakes at Haydock before Royal Ascot.
April 19, 2009 at 23:06 #222651Cant wait to see him in the UK, even the legendary Haydock watering shouldn’t stop him given his win in Rome. Anyone know why Suboric has lost the ride?
April 19, 2009 at 23:19 #222658When I received a text and video 2 years ago about this horse (he’d just won his 3rd race), I could see he was something else, but I do have a habit of getting predictions hopelessly wrong (I said last year that Sereth won win a group 1 race, he was last at Newbury yesterday!!). However, for once, I’m pleased that I have FINALLY have got a prediction right!! Unfortunately, on a personal level, I’m gutted that I’ll miss his first run in England – whilst the racing world descends on Haydock on Saturday 23rd May, yours truly will be stuck in the press room at Baden-Baden! Marvellous!!!!!!! Abso-bl**dy-lutely marvellous!!!!

Dont be so sure, I bet Berkland will give it a bloody good try!!!
April 20, 2009 at 00:05 #222668I really did like overdose last year, and think he’d have won on arc day. However, everyone saw that, and I think everyone seemed to think the same thing, thus, there does seem to be such a great weight of expectation on his shoulders.
I think from the amount that I have heard this horse mentioned over the winter I will definitely be taking him on this comin gseason. There apears to be so many people waiting on him that I think he’ll start at odds on for the kings stand or golden jubilee if he does come over for it.
April 20, 2009 at 01:34 #222684The French should have split the purse down the middle or ordered everyone too come back in a fortnight after the abbey and rerun it, if the ground had gone then they should have ordered racing officals across france to find them a straight five furlongs of good racing ground, even if they had too run the bugger on the turf gallops at Chantilly. Last years abbey was a french farce. Overdose won the race, period, shame the fuckwits who run York dont have the balls too drop the trip of the Duke Of York Stakes down too five and ask the pattern commitee too up it too a group one, given that we should have been given the champion stakes in lew of us loosing our group ins too HQ, i think its the least they can do too give a group one sprint so we can see over Overdose get the group one he deserves.
April 20, 2009 at 02:17 #222689Well, according to a phone call I had from Budapest in the last half hour, apparently, none other than Lester Piggott will be advising the Overdose team regards running their horse in the UK. He was seen at Kinscem Park with the connections today, and from what I understand, Team Overdose are going to use him in some sort of ‘advisor’ capacity.

April 20, 2009 at 02:41 #222693Yet another mightily impressive performance from Overdose. Can’t wait to see him run over here.
Also a fantastic win by Takeover Target in the T J Smith. See him on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JxYQxJhSSg
April 20, 2009 at 02:44 #222694On the watering at Haydock issue, I think Haydock deliberately didn’t water last year, because they wanted to increase the chance of getting a course record in their first holding of the Temple Stakes. I’m assuming the same will be the case this year?
April 20, 2009 at 13:29 #222722They watered deliberately to attract Diktat to the Sprint Cup a few years ago why not do the same for Overdose?
Let’s face it he’s in a different league to our sprinters so why worry about getting Fleeting Spirit or Utmost Respect when you can get the best in the world?
Ascot Gold Cup winner won over the weekend too
April 20, 2009 at 13:34 #222723What on earth do they think they need to hear off Lester? The sprint programme over here is simple. Come before Royal Ascot and take in the Temple at Haydock, if not go to the Kings Stand and/or Golden Jubilee, then it’s obviously July Cup, Nunthorpe, Haydock and the l’Abbaye.
April 20, 2009 at 13:38 #222724I’m pretty sure he is unbeaten, I think its 13-0
He’s unbeaten, 12-0 yesterday’s race including. Yesterday it was the last time he ran in Hungary. Actually, it was a kind of gift from his owner Mikóczy Zoltán to Hungarian people who have no money to go and see him abroad. Normally Overdose would never run anymore in a race like yesterday’s one because he’s too good now, only will run in the most prestigious races of the world.
I don’t know if it’s true but Hungarian newspaper say there’s no another horse that has ever run the 1000 m distance in less than 53 sec. Overdose’ time was 52.6 sec yesterday.
I’m not an expert but there’s a huge enthusiasm and attention here in Hungary now about Overdose. People see all this story as a kind of miracle, a kind of modern tale. And they also say if Overdose is right, no horse can beat him in Ascot. We’ll see.April 20, 2009 at 13:51 #222725Cant wait to see him in the UK, even the legendary Haydock watering shouldn’t stop him given his win in Rome. Anyone know why Suboric has lost the ride?
As far as I know, it was Soumillon himself to ask the owner Mikóczy to give him the opportunity to ride Overdose and he didn’t even ask for money for the first race. At least this is what Mikóczy said this morning on Hungarian televison. He said "when one of the world’s best jockeys walks up to you and tells you a thing like that you just can’t say no."
