Anyone know why these two Thomas Barr horses are not now included in the David Pipe horses in training list?

    From RP Cuttings (07-May-09):

MICHAEL GOODBODY, racing manager to successful owner Thomas Barr, confirmed on Thursday that 2008 Champion Hurdle runner-up Osana will leave the David Pipe yard and join Irish trainer Edward O’Grady.

O’Grady will also take charge of the same owners’ Big Eared Fran, while exciting hurdler Torphichen will be sold on May 19.

Goodbody cited a change of scenery as the main reason for the move, along with Barr’s desire to concentrate on his ever growing flat string.

"Mr Barr has decided to send the two horses to Ireland, in the hope that the horses will improve for a change of scenery. The Pipe’s have done a marvellous job training for us, but Osana has been disappointing this year and he probably needs a change," said Goodbody.

Torphichen was withdrawn from the sales so will be interesting to see where he ends up.

    I presume it’s 1.01 O’Grady!

Thanks for the info David. This must be quite a blow for the trainer. Both Osana and Big Eared Fran must be exciting chase prospects.

I’d be very concerned about Big Eared Fran’s temperament holding up; he really looked like he was hanging fire at Cheltenham and he’s a prime candidate to go the wrong way unless sweetened up by the change of scenery.
