Watched the Leopardstown Bumper yesterday 4.15 Didn’t record the race and I can’t get any of the usual sites to show the replay so this is based on one viewing, I’d be very interested to hear from some of the good race readers as to how they saw it if they can view the replay, that is.
MARY SPRING RICE is the horse, pulled hard early, cruised into third place just before the straight at which point either the jockey lost his irons or a leather broke, hard to see but I was trying to watch every runner and she was on the outside at the time. It looked to me as if she was going at least as well as the (top grade) winner at that point. Long odds, and eventually finished tailed off, virtually pulled up but if I saw what I think I saw this is one to note that could go in at a very big price next time out. None of the race comments refer to any mishap
Help please!!
January 24, 2010 at 21:15 #271924Type in the horses name on a ATR search, and watch the replay. Sign up if you haven’t already. I just tend to think he was out classed. Pulled himself back into it well, but as soon as they stepped up a gear at the business end, he just didn’t have it.

That’s what I usually do but it won’t play???
Didn’t you notice the jockey’s feet were out of the irons when they came into the straight?
January 25, 2010 at 12:14 #271994You should try using a different browser for ATR such as Firefox which works fine here. Yes his feet were off the irons.
January 25, 2010 at 13:20 #272004I’ve got Firefox and Internet Explorer, that race won’t work on either…I’ll keep trying especially now you’ve confirmed that the jockeys feet were out of the irons when the straightened up. I’m totally convinced this is one for the notebook, I know my way around Irish bumber form, and trust me, the winner was well above average
Re the race
Something went wrong as the mare came wide round the field and into 3rd place approaching the straight, she went from pulling hard to stopping like she’d hit a brick wall all in a matter of a few strides, similar to the way Sizing Europe stopped in the Champ Hurdle a couple of years ago.
This all happened on the wrong side of the field for the cameras to piock up what happened, I hope she didn’t break down but I’m assuming physically she was fine as she did complete the course.
January 25, 2010 at 14:00 #272012The mare is by Flaming Song and is therefore a half sister to two group winners (In Germany but still Group 2 races)
Also half brother to another winner (by Montjeu trasined Jim Bolger) and to a colt with a 2011 Epson Derby entryJanuary 25, 2010 at 20:40 #272072No reason not to shove it in your notebook. I’d say it’s a good find, obviously depending on what kind of race he’s entered for next. You need to get those video streams sorted out.
February 9, 2010 at 16:19 #275163Mary Spring rose runs in the last a Fairyhouse tomorrow
February 9, 2010 at 16:21 #275166ooops MARY SPRING RICE (Not Rose)
February 10, 2010 at 17:04 #275436Very dissapointing,flattered to deceive
Pulled far too hard early on, moved in to a close second despite being baulked coming into the straight, going easilky two out lookled a sure 1st or 2nd but had nothing left in the tank.
I’d say she needsd a stronger jockey…Nina rode a winner for the stable at The Galaway Festival…Get well soon Nina
February 10, 2010 at 17:09 #275438Teaching a horse to settle is one of the key things about racing – think Morning Supreme might be one for you CS on that score, pulled so so hard at Cheltenham last year when not far behind hot prospect Quel Esprit and in front of G1 winner Shinrock Paddy, seems a far more settled horse this season so might be one for you at Cheltenham.
February 10, 2010 at 19:40 #275478One to look out for Specialist, as is Othermix who drifted like a barge in the betting and was ultimately disappointing, but will come on a bundle for the run and Tom George is an astute trainer so I will put my faith in him once more NTO even though he’s had a miserable time of it in the UK so far.
The Hollinwell has been in my notebook for the last 2 years and is finally getting it together over fences, still only 7 y/o and will be one to watch come April at Aintree I’m sure. The next Kalahari King perhaps!
February 10, 2010 at 19:42 #275479The Hollinwell is being aimed at the 4 miler I think Rich – certainly more likely to be the next Addington Boy than the next Kalahari King (distance wise anyway)

I’ll keep an eye out for Morning Supreme
You’re so right about hard pullers, very few go on to win their races
Of course there are a few special exceptionsGolden Cygnet and Dunguib of course and to a slightly lesser degree, Diamond Harry
Didn’t New Approach pull all the way in The Derby a few years ago
Re The Bumper : I still think there’s a bumber win in the mare but she needs the right jockey, I think the lad on today is the owner’s son.
February 10, 2010 at 21:55 #275509Cheltenham specialist,i would suggest
Snowy Morning
as a serious Grand National proposition,he has jumped the National fences on 2 successive years and this year he will be very well handicapped again, particularly with the last 2 years winners,Comply or Die and Mom Mome,i would like to think he will get a weight of about 10-13lb,i have backed him at 70 on the machine and 33/1 e/w! I wouldn"t put anyone off backing Mon Mome even with top weight as he is built to carry it and i can see another big run for his supporters!
February 11, 2010 at 19:00 #275672Decent horse….but it’s not a race for me. The last "bet" I had in The Grand National was about ten years ago…ok I have ten bob EW on a couple on the day for fun…but I can’t recall the last time I backed the winner.

I forgot the losses on one of my very rare Ante Post ventures..Garde Champetre for lasy year..as usual with my AP bets the money was lost without a run
