He,s as tough as concrete boots , better run from midnight shadow and fanion stayed on from the clouds …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 24, 2021 at 15:34 #1564516Am I the only one who thought he made rather hard work of that?
Yes he was giving weight to the second and third but he had a fitness advantage over them both and had Itchy Feet jumped better throughout and Midnight Shadow not walked through the ditch and got tired we probably would have had a different result.
Not sure how they are going to place him as he clearly not capable of putting it up to Shishkin over 2m and not sure he is a strong enough stayer against the likes of an Allaho over an extended 2m4f of Ryanair (his record at Cheltenham is 1 from 4). Maybe a return for the Melling Chase?
October 24, 2021 at 15:39 #1564518Itchy feet did jump better but looks like he needs 3 miles
Definitely has a big handicap in him
His jumping still wasn’t overly convincing I thought. All that schooling kind of went to pot under pressure. Still stiff backed and screws sideways. Needs to go back over hurdles perhaps, fences don’t seem to be his bag- his engine kept him in it.

That sounds like the plan based on Skelton’s comments when he was interviewed after the race. If he was mine, he would run in the Ascot Chase in February, skip Cheltenham and go straight to Aintree.
In any case, if Harry Skelton rides him round Cheltenham he will go off way too fast and be finished turning for home.
October 24, 2021 at 16:16 #1564524It was definitely better greenasgrass
Last year he was jumping so poorly he had no chance as he was getting miles back
Turning in today I thought he’d won as he was bang there but he just got tapped for tow by the winner between 2 out and the last before staying on strongly
Hes never going to jump like sprinter sacre but he at least went the pace today
I’m definitely interested up in trip
October 24, 2021 at 16:19 #1564525Thanks guys, delighted with the pair of them.
October 24, 2021 at 16:38 #1564532Didn’t have a bet in the race but I thought Midnight Shadow ran a very nice prep for the Paddy Power Gold Cup or whatever they are calling it this year, ran very well in the Caspian Caviar last year and looked the winner for most of the race today just a little short of fitness perhaps.

Spot on. I’d be eyeing up the 1965 Chase or the Peterborough between now and the Ascot Chase, but getting him back here in April will likely be the main target.
Great work Bobby. Midnight Shadow has been some servant. Hard to believe he’s only 8. There’s bound to land a decent chase prize before too long.
October 24, 2021 at 18:40 #1564547Yes, the Peterborough looks ideal. Skelton said afterwards that they will not campaign him as aggressively this year, so something like Huntingdon, Ascot and Aintree looks like a good schedule.
October 24, 2021 at 18:46 #1564549Excellent VTC. You called it 100%.

October 24, 2021 at 20:33 #1564555You,be got to admire the winners attitude , headed but stuck in and also saw off the attack from itchy feet , he,s prob just below top class but if Skelton does enter him correctly then he,ll continue to make hay , it’s important that he does this correctly long with the likes of third time lucki etc , if he is going to be the top man then he needs to prove he can do it with the grade 1 horses

October 25, 2021 at 22:52 #1564620Thanks Tatling, Peter.
Peter, yeah, serious seasonal reappearance for Midnight Shadow, and surely heads for one of the big handicaps at Cheltenham in Nov/Dec
