It is Ireland and they do things differently.
    Picture father Ted
” Now Racheal, we’ve known each other a long time, way before I was a steward. You know I’d have had a few bob on that there runner. So tell us again, did you mean to stop early?”
“No father, I was just putting a breather into him”.
“Well that’s good enough for me”.
The rest of yers, I’ve told you about betting on the horses!”.
I can find more records of stewards enquiries in Ireland than the UK.

    “RULE (F)37 NEGLIGENCE BY RIDER

2.2 Mistaking the race distance and either riding a finish a circuit too early or failing to ride a finish

1st Offence: Entry Point 10 days – Range 10-14 days”.

It was only last week when a young lad riding a favourite at Worcester got 10 days for mistaking the half furlong pole for the winning post. Frustrating for punters but it was an honest mistake.

An experienced, Gold Cup and Grand National winning jockey makes a similar mistake, is less than truthful in the enquiry and only gets 5 days.

Even allowing for the fact that the incidents took place in two different countries, it still looks poor for racing.

Haha Sam I thought it was all a bit Father Ted too. ‘That money was just resting in my account.’

I guess with the Worcester incident you can be more certain that it cost him the race (an initial justification for Blackmore was that they couldn’t be sure) but they have both ‘mistaken the race distance’ and should therefore cop similar bans.

Yes Richard and if you need anymore confirmation, here is the induction course for new stewards over there and probably here too.

One can only assume they took her ‘explanation’ into consideration after all why would the great ambassador for the sport lie about it.

The more I know the less I understand.

I think her lying and also finishing a circuit too early were far worse than a whip offense where the rider hit 2 or 3 times above the permitted amount.
It should have been 10-14 days, but hey, it’s Rachael.

Agree that the 5 day ban is very lenient. But mistakes do happen even to the best.

Even Ex-Ruby’s (and mine) favourite jockey Ruby Walsh cocked up at Stratford once by taking the wrong course. This was when he was a well-established jockey riding for Nicholls. Although from memory he held his hands up and got longer than 5 days.

Homer, wasn’t that initially a 14-day ban? I forgot that it was reduced to five days. Maybe we’re not talking about the same suspension, though I doubt he got twice the same ban at Stratford.

I can’t remember if the ban was reduced or not but 14 days does ring a bell.

You say the lying and finishing a circuit early is much worse than a whip offence. The point I was making is that mistakes can happen even by the best.

Therefore I would class the lying (if she has lied and it certainly seems that way) is much worse than riding the finish a circuit early. Therefore 10-14 days would seem fair.

The lying offence should carry more – perhaps 28 days.

But the problem there is proving she has lied. Only Rachel and maybe those she has told privately, if any, knows 100% if she has lied.

As I say Rachel has got off leniently.

Did the winner mistake the winning post during the 3 o’c at Zonza yesterday? Surprised Chezza our French correspondent did not spot the incident  Has he something better to be doing!

As a general rule of thumb, Chezza has NEVER got anything better to be doing.

Cheers for the heads up, Zilzal!
