Why Aidan O’Brien chooses Ioritz Mendizabal to ride his horses in France when Ryan Moore is not available? Of course, Mendizabal is one of the most experienced jockeys in France, but why exactly him? There are other top guys who I think wouldn’t hesitate if O’Brien pointed at them. Are there any special connections?

October 8, 2021 at 13:54 #1562635I reckon they should make a travel series.
Aiden and Ioritz have tea at the Ritz
Aiden and Ioritz learn to surf in Biarritz
etcOctober 9, 2021 at 00:55 #1562704Not quite as likely as the suggested travel series but it remains possible that Aidan checked out Wikipedia for Spanish jockeys just because he liked the idea of employing one.
There are but two mentioned, those being Ioritz Mendizabal and Beltrán Alfonso Osorio, 18th Duke of Alburquerque. I’m convinced O’Brien made the correct choice since no trainer in his right mind would put up the Duke, even if he was still alive.
